Maybe the moderators can act as stand-ins for Biden.
Well, I like the president’s idea of having an earlier one, before anyone with ballots has the chance to vote also has the chance to hear from both candidates.
In the event of “no debates”, I can see the DEMs and the MSM putting together a so-called “debate” where Biden gives his heavily-prepared answers to snowball questions, followed up by a team of “analysts” stating what they believe Trump would say and, more importantly, what he believes with no counter argument.
They feel that they can just "say anything".
If they were to have a debate (which I don't think will happen) and if Joe were to wet himself and stare at the camera without speaking for several minutes, they would just say "He wiped the floor with Trump who was clearly out of his depth".
The media would have confidence that they could make the claim and be believed.
If Biden died the Democrats could easily use a deep fake of him ... after all, they’d only need a derp fake.

One of the nice things about moving is that I am consolidating all my supplies and now I know what I have and how much of it, and what else I need.

They KNOW he’ll be a disaster. But Biden couldn’t debate Trump on his very best day because he’s always been a numbskull who always plants his own foot in his mouth. They chose this lame horse now it’s time for them to try to ride him to the finish. Rots-a-Ruck, stupid dems.

Of course he will try to get out of debating Trump - but I don’t think people will let him skip out - as the challenger, he needs to prove himself - especially with there being questions of his mental fitness.
If he he refuses to debate, he will be toast. We’re talking epic Trump landslide.
If there are no debates, there is no way for Biden to be vetted. An incumbent President does not need to be vetted, but a challenger does.
My prediction is that Biden will wind up agreeing to a debate - or something that looks like a debate. But he will make some absurd demands - demands that are unacceptable to Trump - in order to spin it to look like it is President Trump who is afraid to debate.
If Trump is as smart as I know he is, he will call Biden’s bluff and accept anything Biden proposes.
Kind of like “Sure, I’ll fight you, any time, any place. I’ll fight you with both hands tied behind my back.”
The worst scenario for Trump is if they can spin it that he is the one afraid to debate.
For Trump, it is all about appearances - who is afraid to debate who - his actual debate performance won’t matter - people already know who he is.
For Biden, it is important that he not chicken out of debating - but his actual debate performance very much matters - if he starts talking gibberish or goes off to la-la land, he is finished.
That is why Biden will probably propose a non-debate “debate“ format that isn’t live - they need to prerecord it so they can edit out the embarrassing stuff. Kind of like a take-home exam. So he can cheat.
If he does that, Trump should go along with it - but find some way of discrediting it via Twitter. Call it “Biden’s fake debate” or something.

I read an article (sorry, I don’t have the source) where Dr. Jill said there will be three debates and Joe will be at each of them.
FWIW, Debates are sked for Tues, Sep 29; Thurs, Oct 15 and Thurs, Oct 22. Got ‘em in my calendar. Don’t have a TV so I hope the debates will be live streamed somewhere.
