The state changed their locks, but that didnt stop a New Jersey diner from inviting patrons to eat inside, despite coronavirus restrictions.
Lakeside Diner owners Debbie and Brian Brindisi received a call from their alarm company at 4:30 a.m. Friday to notify them that all of the doors had been broken into in Forked River, NJ.com reported.
We came down here, Debbie said. The [Ocean County] sheriffs department was here. A locksmith was here. Lacey Township police were here. They were changing the locks.
But Brian managed to get inside and refused to leave then welcomed the breakfast crowd for indoor service, according to the outlet.
Despite having outdoor seating, the greasy spoon has allowed customers to chow down inside since June in defiance of Gov. Phil Murphys ban racking up numerous citations in the process, the report said.
William Spencer, of Jersey City, said he headed over the diner Sunday for breakfast to support them after learning of the controversy.
There is a lot of fear about defying the governor and I wanted to go down and see how it was, Spencer told The Post.
The diner performed temperature checks at the door, had a large container of hand sanitizer for patrons and kept every other indoor table open to allow for social distancing, he said.
It was awesome. They did a great job, said Spencer, a self-proclaimed diner enthusiast who is working on a documentary about them.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light!!
Good for them.
Good for them.
Those that know me know I always speak highly of Staten island, where I come from.
I talk about how tough the Italians here are.
So with that being said I am horrified at the lack of courage in opening their restaurants. Hundreds could have done it at the same time.
I definitely would have gone in to sit down at one of them. Perhaps it is easier to talk when you are the one not facing the fines and penalties
Love your quote!
That said, Go Jersey! They seem to be standing up while the rest of us are muzzled and crouching before our masters.
These tyrants are using our tax payed law enforcement against us. They need to be removed from office
That locksmith may have a few problems in his future since he’s a police lackey without a badge. I can’t see many current or potential customers trusting someone who’ll help the police lock them out of their own business.
Brindisi is an Italian name.
Is there any proof that someone has caught Covid sitting inside a diner or in a grocery store or Home Depot or Church any of these places?
Them changing locks on a privately owned business cannot be legal... ?!
NJ ping!
I seriously doubt it.
Honestly, I think that if restaurants and bars - Italian or not - all over the country just stood up and said NO MORE this would be over.
Its weird because you never know who the heroes will be. But people need to eat, and if food suppliers just stand up and say this is crazy and they need to be open, they might get a lot of support.
Wish the New Jersey Police were equally aggressive in dealing with BLM/Antifa rioters, looters, anarchists and terrorists.
Instead they stand by and let the BLM scum destroy and burn at will.
But dare to try and feed hungry people and the police descend on you like a ton of bricks. Every diner in New Jersey needs to defy Murphy.
Well, definitely in church services in my state and others. Well documented. (Don’t assume from this comment I am pro-closing).
All nearby residents should boycott the locksmith. The diner owners need to sue the locksmith and consider suing all branches of law enforcement that were involved. As for that corrupt governor, hopefully he will be defeated overwhelmingly if he decides to run again. Definitely a piece of s**t of the first order.
Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy, a Republican, was elected to a third three-year-term with nearly 70 percent of the vote.
Time for a hard charging primary opponent. This idiot willing to sneak into someones business and change the locks.
This guy isn’t the first to say ‘the governnor isn’t the boss of me!’ Murphy will come down on him like a ton of bricks like he did the ones who came before him. I hope I’m wrong but I’ll be surprised if a sudden code violation isn’t discovered and he finds himself out of business as has happened elsewhere.
If thousands more did the same they wouldn’t have to worry about these lowlife tyrants who think they can control everyone’s lives.
Why can the givernment do social distancing in a room full of Presstitutes but a restaurant cannot? /s
