Federal charges....means federal prison. Whatever the ‘kids’ were told on legal consequences....will be laid out by the lawyers, and will probably shock folks to a great extent.

Don't drop the soap, kids! Prepare to get real friendly with Snake and his pal Bubba.

Should the FBI be dismantled and its duties reassigned to the US Marshalls? They actually enforce the law regardless of political party affiliation. Or so it appears.

The troopers assigned to Portland have been cross-deputized by the U.S. Marshals.

Cross-deputized? That means that Donald Trump deputized them in front of a burning cross, doesn't it? The racism will never end with this administration!

So, the governor, in her desperation to avoid calling in the overdue National Guard, takes the deal to bring in what are in effect Federal Police.

They can start by arresting Democrat politicians.

Flank attack by the President. But I wonder where will those arrested be jailed to avoid release by the locals who hae co opted the law?

In Portland there is actually no law.

FBI should simply be a high tech lab with no badges or guns. Move the ATF arson guys there and disband ATF too.

“But I wonder where will those arrested be jailed to avoid release by the locals who hae co opted the law?”

One of the duties of US marshals is to move prisoners to selected incarceration points. Could be a local county jail or a federal facility 3,000 miles from Portland.

Title: Defendant and Prisoner Custody and Detention

Each day, the Marshals Service houses approximately 52,000 detainees in federal, state, local and private jails throughout the nation. In order to house these pre-sentenced prisoners, the Marshals Service contracts with approximately 1,800 state and local governments to rent jail space. Eighty percent of the prisoners in Marshals Service custody are detained in state, local and private facilities.

I appreciate your obviously thoughtful response. That sounds like a vast improvement. On the other hand, even science, ie, forensics, can be politically corrupted.

“...but if the nincompoop DA won’t file charges.....”

Feds use the federal AG not the local State DA.

The City Council has to charge the DA with criminal negligence in releasing a felon in possession of a handgun used in a murder less than a week later. And maybe a 72-hr psych evaluation ‘time out’.
