I’m afraid you give the Repubs way too much credit. Of course they will have hearings. Didn’t they have hearings for the idiocy known as the House impeachment? Of course they did. When they should’ve just denied the articles in the first place. Having failed to do that they should’ve taken an immediate vote and rejected it. And of course they didn’t do that either.
I really don’t understand the liberal outrage about selecting a nominee at this point. A typical confirmation usually takes 90 days. Does anybody really think there will be nine justices before election day? Not with our trusted Republican senators in place.
It would sure cut down on the lunacy in one way (in the
Senate), but it would also increase the lunacy on the street.

Of course, there will be hearings. I hope that the nominee is a very likeable human being so that the nasty attacks just can’t stick. Besides, you know that Kamala Harris and her nastiness will lead the Inquisition. A likeable nominee will contrast sharply with Kamala playing Torquemada.
Either skip the committee hearing it’s superfluous anyway. Or set strict deadline if day one day. And rules to prevent the D’s from turning it into a disgusting slime pit like they did to kavanaugh. I’ve never seen anything more despicable in congress as Feinstein and the rest of her slandering pigs. Let’s get a good nominee confirmed this week !!!!
COVID times call for drastic measures. That’s what they’ve been telling us. Straight to the senate floor. That will minimize viral exposure and get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Senator Ted Cruz pointed out the urgency of why it must be done. There is a damn good chance that this election will go to SCOTUS. And if it does and there’s a 4-4 tie; then what?
I pray to God that the Senate Republicans will do the obvious thing and confirm a new justice within the next three or four weeks. At least Mitch is making all the right moves towards making that happen. God, I hope so.
No need to skip hearings, then this looks and would be rushed, and there’s plenty of time.
My suggestion is to limit debate, The committee hearings need only be a few days. Announce ahead of time. Debate, then vote.

His tool was a committee hearing designed to bring out the dirt on the two candidates and keep the Warren slot open for Richard Nixon to fill. It worked.
Later, Fortas was forced off the Court when his involvement with crooked financier Leonard Wolfson became public.
