Heavy fighting has erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, with both civilians and combatants killed. Accusing Azerbaijan of air and artillery attacks, Armenia reported downing helicopters and destroying tanks, and declared martial law. Azerbaijan said it had begun a counter-offensive in response to shelling. The region is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians.

Wait a minute, didn’t that happen like 30 years ago? Or am I in some kind d of time warp?
You think Putin will sit idly by?
You think Putin will sit idly by?
I wonder about that, considering that it seemed like Russia was making nice with Turkey, of late.
“Populated for centuries by Christian Armenian and Turkic Azeris, Karabakh became part of the Russian empire in the 19th century.
The two groups lived in relative peace, although acts of brutality on both sides in the early 20th century live on in the popular memory.
After the end of World War I and the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, the new Soviet rulers, as part of their divide-and-rule policy in the region, established the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, with an ethnic Armenian majority, within the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan in the early 1920s.
As Soviet control loosened towards the end of the 1980s, smouldering Armenian-Azeri frictions exploded into violence when the region’s parliament voted to join Armenia.
During the fighting, in which between 20,000 and 30,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives, the ethnic Armenians gained control of the region. They also pushed on to occupy Azerbaijani territory outside Karabakh, creating a buffer zone linking Karabakh and Armenia. “
Don’t anybody tell Liz Cheney or her Pa. They will start pushing for the USA to ‘get involved’ in this scrimmage.
Turkey and Azerbaijan hate the Armenians almost as much as the Arab world hates t3h j000z.
I can still remember seeing the bumper stickers and placards that the Turkish Students Association had when I was in Uni that showed a drawing of a gnarled, poisonous tree with “geNOcide” written in the branches and: “An Armenian LIE Since 1915” in the twisted roots.
Oh, that one’s easy. The usual suspects will say it’s Trump’s fault, because he’d indicated that he might recognise the Armenian Genocide (which the Turks say never happened).
This is how Hiden will miss the debate, he has to fly to Antwerp to pick up his Peace Prise.
The region is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians.
Oh, not again.
Wasn't expecting that. I should though, it's 2020.
Armenian artillery destroyed an entire column of Azerbaijani BTRs. Who thought it was a good idea to drive in a long, straight line? pic.twitter.com/wwH4Oo4iyR— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) September 27, 2020
Azerbaijan is trying to turn their war with Armenia into a religious one as they're taking in support from Syrian Islamist mercenaries. pic.twitter.com/4QTOLNswuf— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) September 27, 2020
The Balkans being the Balkans.
What has changed in 30 years for these people. No ethnic hatred was abated, no real peace deal was ever concluded, and why the hell does the US have any interest there anyway.
Ethnic Armenians just want to go home.
I ALWAYS said Nagorno-Karabakh was worth fighting over! /s
SEND IN THE MARINES! /s
or Shad-rack Me-shack and to bed we go.
or “he IS the Kwisatz Haderach!”
The best solution would be for Azerbaijan to give Armenia the western most territory of Azerbaijan that is split away from the mainland.
Then Armenia can cede Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan.
Otherwise, let Russia mediate the crisis since they were the ones that created the confusing boundaries for those two countries.
But... but... but... Azerbaijan and Turkey wantsss the preciousssss! (rolls eyes)
