News media and election watchers have long relied on exit polling to tell them who voted and why they support their chosen candidate on election night, and despite the unprecedented challenges 2020 has presented, this year will be no different.
Exit polling traditionally involves interviews with a randomly selected sample of voters conducted as those voters leave their polling places. Unlike preelection polling, where voters can be identified using only screening questions or a history of voting on a voter file, meeting voters where they are ensures that those included in the survey have actually cast their ballots.
Advertisement But carrying out a poll exclusively that way during a pandemic, when more than 90 million have already cast their ballots, would not be a representative measure of the full electorate.
To make the 2020 survey more representative, Edison Research has made modifications to the methodology it uses to carry out the exit poll for the National Election Pool, a news consortium made up of CNN, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News.

Whatever you do today do NOT pay any attention to so-called “exit polls,” esp on Drudge. These are flat out lies. Exit polls in 2004 had Kerry winning OH and FL. He lost them both. Exit polls had Trump losing.
Everyone needs to ignore leftist mass media exit polls.
They are noise.
Evil noise.
Exit polls will be as bad as 2008 that had Kerry winning VA
and Karl Rove fell for it.
Who is going to say they voted for Trump if there are any antifa/blm types hanging around?
Drudge’s exit polls today will be vote suppression against R voters! Don’t fall for Drudge’ fake polls this afternoon!
This is about weaponizing fake exit polls to depress R turnout after 5pm Eastern Time today.
Right - refuse to respond to them, and ignore them if reported.
“How the exit polls will work in a pandemic”
as i recall, the initial exit polls in 2016 were just as inaccurate and misleading as the pre-election polls were ...
2004.
And I believe they had him winning in SC as well which is why networks took so long to call it even though Bush carried it handily.
Karl Rove has suckered more people than many questionable
characters in history.
He still gets handsome paychecks from some of the largest
cable networks.
It’s amazing how wrong he can be, and still be asked for
his “incredible” (non-existent) insight.
This isn’t about accuracy, it’s about Drudge attempt at suppressing R turnout after work.
Exit polls are a terrible way to get an early jump on final results. They’re a good way, a month or two later, to figure out WHY different types voted as they did, but they’re worse than regular polls in “calling” the result.
By the way, Exit polls are going to skew Republican this year, because so many Dems nationally voted early.
The exit polls have been modified this year to include early voters.
The pandemic ends tomorrow...
Disagree.. pull your MAGA hat out of your pocket as you walk out and put it on.
Can be.I even anyone on the right is even checking outDrudge anymore.
