The Compromise of 2021
Townhall.com ^ | November 7, 2020 | Jason Garshfield

Posted on 11/07/2020 5:48:56 AM PST by Kaslin

2020 is shaping up to be the most hotly contested presidential election since 1876.

In that inauspicious year, as you may recall, Democrat Samuel Tilden won the popular vote, but after a protracted Electoral College battle, Republican Rutherford B. Hayes was declared the winner in exchange for his promise to end Reconstruction and remove federal troops from the South.

The Compromise of 1877 – as it was called – was a historical tragedy which paved the ways for decades of Jim Crow. However, the precedent it set could be used for nobler purposes today. Donald Trump should take a leaf from the Tilden playbook: in no circumstance should he concede the election without receiving some major concessions in exchange.

As of right now, the outcome of the presidential election is still uncertain. If Joe Biden wins, his position will not be strong. A President Biden would likely face a Republican Senate, which would effectively prevent him from passing any major legislation, or appointing any judges or Cabinet nominees, without bipartisan support. If he tried to rule by executive order, he would be subject to the rulings of a 6-3 conservative Supreme Court and a federal judiciary where a quarter of judges are now Trump appointees.

Still, Republican control of the Senate is far from guaranteed, and Democrats retain a chance of claiming a narrow majority. The American people cannot rely on the whims of that body alone to prevent Democrats from implementing the most radical planks of their 2020 platform. They need another line of defense, and Donald Trump can provide one.

Even if Joe Biden is found to be the clear winner of the Electoral College once all legal votes are counted, Trump will still have plenty of room for mischief. While he likely won’t barricade himself in the White House, he can refuse to concede, call Biden a cheater, and spend his last two months in office sabotaging the executive branch in any way he can. After leaving the White House, Trump can use his vast fortune to pepper Biden with legal challenges and continue to hold rallies all over the United States, loudly proclaiming to raucous crowds that Biden is an illegitimate usurper whose authority should not be respected.

Biden could get this treatment… or he could get a gracious concession speech from Trump and a peaceful and orderly transition of power. In no case should Trump give him the latter without eliciting significant concessions from the Democrats.

This means abandoning all of the radical proposals of Bernie Sanders and the Squad. No Green New Deal, no Medicare-for-All, no assault weapons ban, no Court packing, no D.C. statehood, no Puerto Rico statehood unless a blue state is split in two to create a new red state, no nationwide Covid lockdowns, no critical race theory, no removal of due process for college students accused of Title IX violations, no radical picks for Cabinet positions or judicial vacancies. None of it. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris must both publicly commit themselves to governing as the moderates that they have spent the last several months claiming to be.

If this truly was about saving America from the alleged evils of Trump, and not about implementing a plan to fundamentally reshape America into a democratic socialist nation, then here is Democrats’ chance to prove it by agreeing to a Biden presidency in exchange for a centrist policy agenda.

Lest I be accused of defeatism, allow me to emphasize that there is no reason yet to accept Trump as the loser of the election. However, if the prospect for a Trump victory grows bleak in the coming weeks, then this sort of deal will serve as an insurance policy against the worst tendencies of the Democratic Party. While the Compromise of 1877 did great and lasting harm to our nation, a similarly concocted Compromise of 2021 might save it, ensuring that we are governed by a moderate coalition rather than a junta of fringe left-wing activists hell-bent on foisting their radical agenda upon the rest of us.

Because we all know Democrats are as good as their word. They’d never say “yes” and then immediately claim the concessions were made under duress, or that new events force them to reluctantly change their commitment.

But how can you trust them in any deal? They blatantly lie and they think they are above the law and surely they would think they are above any agreement.

No compromise. Biden declared a “mandate” last night along with dragging the country to communism and AOC has already started a stasi purge list.

There is no compromise with these communists.

This article is based on three false premises: A President Biden would likely face a Republican Senate, which would effectively prevent him from passing any major legislation, or appointing any judges or Cabinet nominees, without bipartisan support.

False: Without a meaningful challenge, The democrats will steal both Georgia Senate runoff seats.

If he tried to rule by executive order, he would be subject to the rulings of a 6-3 conservative Supreme Court

False: The democrats will pack the Supreme Court with four additional judges, making the balance 6-7 in favor of liberals.

False: As soon as Trump becomes a private citizen, the democrats will use the full weight and force of the entire US government to destroy him. He will be bankrupted, imprisoned, probably even killed.

If an article starts with three false premises, there is no more that can be made of it.

Uh... no, and no further comment...

I prefer Trump go for the first option. Never concede, label Biden as a cheater and an illegitimate President and stooge of the swamp and China, and crisscross the country doing rallies and making his case until he runs again in 2024.

Meanwhile, McConnell’s Senate should refuse to confirm any and all Harris/Biden radical judges and appointments.

They’ll get amnesty with bipartisan support, Flimsey Grahamnesty is already on board along with Micro Rubio and others.

It will all be over at that point.

Nonsense. If this steal stands, then the two Georgia Senate seats will also be brazenly stolen, so commie-rats will control the Senate. House Bill 1 is already waiting to be passed on day 1 - the first part of only Communists will be allowed to rule.

Even if we “hold” the Senate, Grahamasty, Collins, Romney, etc cannot wait to turn on the country to enable and usher in one party Communist rule, because they think they will still be allowed to play. They will never oppose Cabinet members, judges, statehood, open borders to replace the population, illegal amnesty, etc. They will never oppose anything, they will make Vichy French look like the French Resistance.

Third, Communist-Rats just like mooselimbs will lie about everything and anything to further their cause. An agreement with them is void the second it is reached. Afterall, once you are out of power, how would it be enforced? You can’t.

If this fraud stands, it might as well be = Fort Sumter.

I would add:

Total data dump of all NSA and other intelligence agency secret files of all politicians—both parties—put it on the Internet all over the world.

Kinda difficult for politicians to be blackmailed when _everything_ is out there....

We have a right to know every single pedophile in public office and in the bureaucracy, for example—no longer a secret for special interests and foreign governments.

I swear, what do you have against Senator Graham? Instead of bitching about senators from other states why don't you work on it that you turn your state red.

It's obvious that the voters of South Carolina like Senator Graham, the same goes for Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. If the voters didn't like them, they wouldn't vote for them and reelect them.

You actually trust them to live up to this bargain, after Trump concedes?

Fantasy...

biden and heels couldn’t win straight up. They had to resort to cheating to gain the White House in the first place.

And now we are to believe that they will honor any commitment to President Trump and the American people?

Fantasy...

Sorry, but if Biden wins the election then where is Trump in a position to demand anything? Biden doesn't need for Trump to be gracious, to issue a polite concession, to have a transition, any of that.

Keep in mind that once Trump is out of the White House-—IF he is out of the White House-—he will never be accorded the same treatment as Zero or W.

He will be the subject of criminal proceedings at the federal and at the SDNY level. If they don’t have a case, they will invent one. All his children will be charged with something.

It will be Mike Flynn on steroids.

Meanwhile, all of us had better prepare for endless audits, IRS investigations, and federal harassment if your business has any connection to the federal government at all. If you don’t believe me, look at Jenny the Ugly Red Rubin and AOC lining up Beria-type “enemies lists.”

I had considered the 1877 scenario, but with Trump remaining in office. Namely, they drop all opposition to state legislatures in MI, WI, and PA submitting Trump, and Trump gives them something. I don’t know what that is. And I know the immediate reaction of most of us is “What?? Reward them for their criminality?”

Right now everything rests in WI, MI, and PA. We will now need all of them because I don’t think any recouts or re-canvassing in GA will get that state back. And this requires Trump to hold AZ and/or get NV.

The good news is that the state legislatures have at least woken up. PA, WI, and MI are all beginning some form of examination. But it is crucial they do not just RECOUNT the votes. They would be recounting fraud. They need to a) reCANVASS the vote which means checking all the machines for error, then (much higher hill to climb) b) convening to hear evidence from Pres. Trump’s team on fraud. This should be as overwhelming as Trump can make it. These legislators are by nature cowards and do not want to be responsible for “flipping” an election. Remember the media and left will come after every single legislator, their families, their businesses. They would be literally looking at a 1776-level sacrifice here. So Trump’s Team has to show them that the fraud is massive; not just election changing but flipping numbers beyond all recognition; and (perhaps most important) that NEXT TIME this softward/fraud will be used at all levels. NO ONE will be safe.

I do not look to the USSC here to be our savior-—not that they wouldn’t rule in our favor-—but we need to get all three of these states after GA has been apparently lost.

I say the opposite. Trump drops lawsuits and agrees to some liberal demands but he retains the presidency.
