Listening to US Vice President – Elect Kamala Harris speak about Hanukkah frightened me more than Rashida Tlaib’s vulgar tweets.
As I see it , the danger lies in distorting the meaning and intent of the Hasmonean revolt against the Syrian occupation.
If one may paraphrase Churchill’s tribute to the RAF during the battle of Britain, we may say of the Maccabees that never before in the history of human conflict have so many owed so much to so few.
Had the Maccabees failed there would be no Judaism, no Jews and no Christianity or Christians.
Neither would there be Islam, the Renaissance, Enlightenment or the Declaration of Indepencence.
It may be a fact that the world speaks about the “occupied territories”.
However, the last of the illegal occupiers, the Jordanians, no longer wish to occupy Judea and Samaria.

Both Obama and Harris are lawyers and one might have believed that a lawyer, like a historian, realizes that the sequence of events is quite relevant to adjudicating the issue of who is the rightful owner of this property.
While Harris has not yet described the Temple Mount as the “holiest site in Islam”, she did describe Hanukkah in such vapid language as if the Maccabees never existed.
This kind of omission is somewhat like describing the American victory against Japan without once mentioning the Marines.
Of course her Jewish husband sat alongside grinning. By allowing Harris to trivialize one of the most courageous episodes in western civilization, by speaking inane sentences about “light, joy and tikkun olam” we betray our ancestors.

Well said. I believe he was under a common misunderstanding. Secular Jews have much more exposure than Lubavitchers, observant Orthodox and other Trump supporting Jews. Pushed by the media. Sadly, most Amerrican Jews would write off Israel and be uninterested in hearing about what happened. Upsetting to ponder. Trump got 24% support in 2016 and more in 2020 but completely under what thinking Jews should have given him.
I'm sure this is a marriage of convenience or simply for show. She needed a husband before declaring her candidacy... and even better if he's Jewish. I read yesterday he has secured a position at Georgetown. I'm sure there are other benefits accruing to him.

Hell, Chelsea Clinton married into a known anti-Israel, if not, at least for one, anti-Jewish family, the Mezvinskys. Some are convicted criminals; others failed financial people; and Ed or Norton Mezvinsky, is/was a leading anti-Israel wackjob. Can’t keep the Mezvinsky’s straight any more.
And the left attacks Trump’s son-in-law Eric Kushner for being pro-Israel and a proud Jew? Hypocrisy has no limits for the Democrats/Left.
One interesting thing is if you look at pro-freedom, pro-Trump writers in national publications and talk shows, many are Jewish - Epsteins, Greenbergs, Levins, Shapiros; etc.
We may be a smaller group than the old FDR/Communist Party Jewish Left, but we are in the fight to the finish to keep America free and safe.
