Ambulance workers in Los Angeles County have reportedly been told not to transport patients with “little chance of survival” to local hospitals as intensive care units are overwhelmed with COVID patients.
The directive from the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency, obtained by CNN, also tells the ambulance workers to “conserve the use of oxygen.”
In Los Angeles, many intensive care units are at capacity as a disastrous wave of the virus surges across Southern California.

Due to these factors, EMS workers were told to “perform resuscitation for at least 20 minutes” if a patient’s heart has stopped instead of taking them to a hospital.

I heard such dire triage remarks many years ago, during the big Ebola scare. Lots of people bleeding to death while buckled up on planes in flight. That was the disease I thought was going to spiral out of control. But. Somehow, it did not.

Most EMS staff will say the survival rate is 5%. That’s what they taught at my last BLS class.

And I’m here to tell you that the survival they are speaking of is not one you necessarily want. The ones I have seen make it were tubed and shipped out to die a few weeks later in a trauma center ICU. Unless healthcare staff do the compressions, they are rarely done hard enough.
Next time you use the word absurd, check the facts so you don’t look stupid.

The edict doesn’t just apply to Covid folks - it applies to anyone who may suffer a stoke, heart attack or other crisis that requires EMTs to be sent.
CA’s state WuFlu dashboard indicates there are still hundreds of ICU beds available in LA County.
These stories are BS.
