Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, stopped Trump from joining fringe social media platforms Parler and Gab after he was banned from Twitter, according to a report from CNN.
Kushner and deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino are said to have gone against other aides, such as personnel chief Johnny McEntee, to get Trump not to join other social media platforms, an outside adviser and an administration official told CNN.
Trump has now been banned from most major social media platforms. His favorite social media platform, Twitter, suspended him Friday for peddling claims of election fraud.
Parler and Gab are platforms that have attracted some far-right users due to the companies’ lack of speech restrictions on their platforms. Gab and Parler are not available on Google Play or the Apple app store.

Looks like he made the right decision because Parler was shut down a day later.

Before Parler was de-platformed, I didn't find it to be "fringe". Dan Bongino was one the main contributors. It wasn't censored like facebook, so I guess the left might construe Free Speech as "fringe".
Gab, for me, has been pretty much useless for me all week. I don't know if the sudden inclusion of so many signups (they say hundreds of thousands) mean the platform can't handle the load, or there is some other cause, such as a lefty denial of service attack.
As for Kushner, I don't understand the animosity. He has been the main driving force behind much of Donald Trump's Legacy, particularly the peace deals in the Middle East.
The Hill is one of those sources to be wary of. Did Kushner really “Stop” him or merely advise him to lay off social media for a while?
