He does not misunderstand it. “Unity” to the left means “our way”.
We all know that the Dems are the “winners”, we are the vanquished. In that scenario, they expect submission, that, to them is unity.
It occurs to me that there is very slight bright spot in this. The gloves are off, the masks are off. This is now about socialism vs. capitalism.

The communists and mooselimbs have the same definitions for peace and unity. Submission.
It mirrors the Islamic definition of “unity” and other tribal morality systems - you must publicly obey mandates by those in power to be tolerated.
And you lose the protection of the tribe and can be attacked by them if you don’t use the right words, dress correctly, eat forbidden foods ...
We must all unite now because shut up.

I rather suspect Biden’s speechwriter has not read Augustine. There are many books which are just a compendium of excerpts of neato quotes to which speechwriters refer when they want a speech to sound high-minded. The writer probably didn’t even realize there was more to the speech and its context. But there are many types of unit, many of which are harmful. Bonnie and Clyde were united. So were the Ku Klux Klan and the Nazis and the Communists. Westboro Baptists are united as well as Antifa and BLM and and Southern Poverty Law radicals. It is typical of political speech that it is vague and capable of many interpretations, designedly so.

I am wondering how long it will be before Joe AND Frankie decide they are going to micromanage church services for us and mandate proof of vaccination to enter a church.
Unity in globalist speak means submission, same as Islam.
