A hacker recently tried to poison a Florida city’s water supply, police announced Monday.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said someone remotely accessed a computer system that controls the City of Oldsmar’s water treatment facility on Friday.
The unidentified person increased the amount of sodium hydroxide being distributed into the city’s drinking water to a “dangerous” level, Gualtieri said at a press conference.
The chemical, also known as lye, is used in small amounts to control the water’s acidity — but can be deadly if ingested in large quantities.
A worker at the plant immediately noticed the change and reversed it, the sheriff said.

As a Luddite I hate and despise the computer age.
For years now foreign governments have experimented with remotely using the interlinked US computer grids for such things as testing vulnerabilities of suppliers of electricity and especially water. They several times shut off and then later turned on a small city’s water processing plant. If turned back on too soon, the machines cannot handle the surge and will blow out and be ruined. That’s the enemies’ game plan for later on.
If allowed to be done on a large scale, the foreign entity could destroy the huge handling machines , making them useless. that does not mean just tinker and fix it again, it means manufacture a new one in another state , transport it on freeways and set it up. That all takes months at a minimum. No water and no sewage handling at all until then. For homes, hospitals, schools, companies or fire departments. One city, a disaster, several cities, a catastrophe.
They’ve been told in Congressional hearings in 2015-2017 to stop the remote system and interlinked system and let it be independently run and manually re-started if a failure happens.
The IOT means your toaster is spying on you.
Sounds like something the DOJ would do.
If the DOJ were involved, it would accelerate to 150 mph and then explode into flames with multiple detonations.
Yes, and the investigator would be suicided.
"Guess what Joe gave me access too? Next is Reading and Pennsylvania Railroads. Will have a American monopoly on you beeotches!"
LOL.
I always suspected my toaster. It can tell if it's a bagel or a slice of bread and maybe it can ask this laptop if I've been posting stuff on FR that sounds patriotic.
