The Senate and lawyers for former President Donald Trump on Saturday reached a deal to avoid witness depositions in his impeachment trial — averting a potentially weeks-long drama sparked by an 11th-hour request by Democrats to depose a Republican congresswoman.
The deal allowed for a statement by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) to be read into the record without the congresswoman or anyone else being deposed as a formal witness.
The compromise allows for the trial potentially to end on Saturday as was initially expected. Trump is expected to be acquitted of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in a mostly party-line vote.
Impeachment managers led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) surprised senators on Saturday morning by saying that they wanted to depose and subpoena notes written by Herrera Beutler regarding Trump’s remarks during the riot.

The “deal” was ostensibly agreed to because the pubs would call pelousy and others like her as a witness.

Okay, but the Republicans should get to enter a statement into the record from McCarthy, who says the conversation didn’t happen as Herrera tweeted. We are now entering Tweets into the Congressional Record?
In this case Graham was right...smart move.
The Republicans should have never let them off the hook. They should have called all 301 witnesses. It would have tied up the Senate for weeks, better than any filibuster. No nationally bankrupting “Covid relief” bill that is actually a bailout for bankrupt Democrat urban zones. Too bad the Republicans don’t have crafty, imaginative leaders.
The Dems still got their hearsay into the record.
She did, and it can be proven, so she would be stuck with lying and being prosecuted, or conceding the fraud of the Impeachment.
