It will depend. Does Texas have a lot of the Wind Turbines that froze. If Abbott uses a natural disaster he has no control over to push for greater energy independence, he will not be blamed.

From the article: "Some wind turbine generators were iced, but nearly twice as much power was wiped out at natural gas and coal plants." This appears to be a colossal screw-up at all energy sources.

A week ago Texas was all about "We need to secede". A few inches of snow and some cold temperatures later Texas is shivering in the dark and calling for federal disaster assistance. I can't be the only one who finds that amusing.

And coal fired plants wouldn’t miss a beat, never did. Trains show up at the coal plant daily in the ice storm. Texas and America has about a thousand years of coal. We can never run out. We’ll be using some energy source as alien to us as nuclear was to the Romans’ before we run out of coal.

Think what happens in such an event when our vehicle fleet is electric too!!
Maybe cars will come with a small windmill and solar array attached.

Unrelated, Ford announced today there vehicles in Europe will be electric by 2030.

Thank you. That’s the first good explanation I’ve seen for why natural gas well output fell precipitously.

People should not be over reacting to a once every 100 year temperament event. So many bad laws, policies, regulations come into being from doing that. Many parts of Texas will see highs 70+ all next week.

I had dinner with a vendor representative who was two days late to a scheduled meeting with my customer. He told me his boss wanted him to drive his Mercedes east from Minneapolis. It was extremely cold and the fuel gelled and the engine would not run

Maybe some people just need to grow up. Millions of people in the Northeast had to cope with a number of major storms over the last ten years that knocked out their power for days at a time.

This is one big reason why I never bought into the idea that places like Florida and Texas are going to be economically dominant for the long term. I honestly believe that the absence of harsh winter weather tends to turn people into lazy, inept sheep.

Design a wind-up manual auger device and you’re good to go.

States are foreseeing eventual draconian mandates by the EPA that could affect federal funding/incur huge fines and push unreliable green energy schemes on a massive scale. Follow the money and authoritarians.

Government is supposed to protect us. At least that’s what they tell us to justify high taxes. Obviously, they can’t. But they will keep up the masquerade and tell us to trust them, that they will keep us safe.

God gave this earth coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear power and the wisdom of man to use them effectively.

Did He not also give us wind and sunshine?

People in Texas were brought offline and they lied about rolling the blackouts.

They could restore power for millions and shift the misery. They promised they would and then flip-flopped.

That’s all great, but most of the lost generation was from natural gas. They could have replaced all the wind generation with gas, and this still would have happened.

“The companies who run the power plants did not winterize as recommended.”

What is ‘winterizing a power plant’?

Did the Texas power planners cut back on building conventional power plants and instead build solar and wind power plants? Or did this cold weather just overwhelm the conventional power plants.

Well, it’s a mess, primarily because of the unusual cold. Not sure anyone deserves a lot of blame.

A number of coal plants are down still their cooling water intakes are frozen. The operators didn’t winterize the open steel pipes and negative air temps.froze them. Some are also down due to the design of the cooling towers lacking drain back valves and water freezing in the pipes leading to the spray.towers. natural gas went down due to well.heads freezing , HDPE gathering lines freezing and the power outages knocking the ESP down bore pumps off line. Trucks cannot get to the well tanks to.empty the produced water so the well shuts in when the tanks get full you cannor dump saline radioactive water on the ground it must go to an approved SWD Disposal well. No trucks no produced gas. It’s been a historic storm a once in a century event this is the winter equivalent to a cat 5 hurricane or a mag 9 earthquake

Maybe they should have that parrot-beaked jackass Anthony Fauci give all the status briefings to the people of Texas about the situation there. Maybe THEN people will finally understand why you should never trust ANYTHING your government tells you.
