Washington — President Biden announced his three nominees to join the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors on Wednesday, the first step for the board to potentially oust controversial Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. There are currently three vacancies on the nine-member board, and the six existing members were all appointed by former President Donald Trump.

Mr. Biden has chosen Anton Hajjar, the former general counsel of the American Postal Workers Union; Amber McReynolds, a voting rights activist and the CEO of the National Vote at Home Institute; and Ron Stroman, who recently retired as deputy postmaster general. If confirmed by the Senate, Democrats would have a majority on the board, which currently has four Republicans and two Democrats.

DeJoy appeared at a hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday, where Democrats grilled him on the slowdown in mail deliveries over the summer, amid the coronavirus pandemic and an uptick in voting by mail ahead of the November election. DeJoy told members of the committee that his future plans for the agency may include slowing the delivery of first-class mail.

Isn't this just great. We had the majority. But Trump left 3 unfilled so now Biden gets to fill them. We had from November to January to easily fill these knowing that we were going to change Presidents. What a shame and lost opportunity. Oh well. Good bye DeJoy......you couldn't talk to President Trump to get these vacancies filled. Now Democrats will have the majority and will vote you out, and goodness knows what messes they will make of the Post Office. I am so sick and tired of having opportunities but losing them due to stupidity.

And get off President Trump.

What was he involved with SINCE November ?

And even if he HAD nominated three, what do you think could have been accomplished by January 20 ?

A ‘forever’ stamp is an indicator of delivery speed.

And you my friend are the reason we lose at every level. You look at this like a little deal like you did losing Georgia, losing the presidency. Perhaps you like losing.

What he did from November to January was complain. He should have nominated the three candidates. He knew the post office was being attacked by the left.

Changing board members isn’t going to do anything to fix the U.S. Post Office. The agency is swirling around the toilet and can only be saved by changes that require Congressional authorization ... which means the board has no effective function anyway.

P.S. — one of things that pissed off Beltway insiders about Donald Trump was that he recognized how useless many of these boards comprised of executive branch appointees were ... so he just left many seats vacant and refused to appoint anyone to fill them.

I’ve done work in the last that was subject to approval by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board by law. The STB is supposed to have five members. At one time in Trump’s term in office they were down to just two members.

Audit exposes Billions in Postal Service’s overtime racket as Democrats seek trillion dollar bailout
Extra pay grew by billions, even as mail delivery slowed. Over 4,000 workers earned more weekly in OT pay than in their base pay.

By John Solomon, just the news.com, August 27, 2020 -

The U.S. Postal Service has racked up billions of dollars in excessive overtime from its workers over the last several years, even as its employee numbers have gone up and its mail delivery has declined, according to a new audit likely to raise questions about congressional Democrats' demands for a bailout.

Overtime pay has become so predominant at America's premier mail delivery service that more than 4,000 postal workers last year actually earned more in OT pay than their base pay, a 429% increase in highly compensated overtime earners since 2014, the agency's internal watchdog reported this week.

The situation exists in part because postal employees are allowed to determine their own overtime hours without needing prior management approval, and management does not always keep accurate payroll records, the audit report concluded.--snip--

I’m sure it’s useless. But now we can forget any of the positive improvements that Dejoy was doing.

Probably true. They do have one power. Firing the post master general. Not even Biden can do that.

I’m not sure what all those positive improvements have been. Perhaps it was on the financial side of the agency. I have found the U.S. Postal Service to be completely unreliable and barely functional.
