Animal-rights protest forces Golden Gate [Bay Area Ractrack] to delay Thursday card

Animal-rights protesters, some chained together on the racetrack, disrupted racing and COVID-19 vaccinations on Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.

A group called Direct Action Everywhere set up pickets around the track, and four members chained themselves together and lay down on the track near the five-sixteenths pole at noon, about 45 minutes before the first race. The people on the track also set off purple smoke flares, while another group of protesters waved signs near the entrance that said, “Shut Down Golden Gate Fields.”

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there were no spectators at the track for the day’s card.

Golden Gate canceled the first race and resumed the card under lights with the second race at about 7:30 p.m., after the protesters on the track had been unchained and cited by police. The rest of the card was completed without incident.

According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, a spokesperson for Direct Action Everywhere said the reason for the protest was to call attention to horse deaths at Golden Gate Fields.

“Today our goal was to ensure that no horses had to race, and to spark the discussion about closing Golden Gate Fields,” an organizer for the group told The Chronicle.

But the protest also resulted in county health officials shutting down a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the Golden Gate Fields parking lot for several hours. According to The Chronicle, the clinic was closed because of smoke from the flares and that police and health officials feared more protesters might access the track through the clinic. An estimated 200 people in line to be vaccinated had to have their appointments rescheduled.

In response to the protests, the track tweeted: “We respectfully suggest to the activists that there is a better way to have this conversation and air their concerns. We welcome the opportunity to have this discussion in the appropriate format.”

In a sane world, none of these people would ever be heard from again.

...four members chained themselves together and lay down on the track...

At least six feet apart? If no, off to prison for noncompliance.

The horses are not being forced to do anything that doesn’t come natural to them. Of course, there are some dishonest people out there that will mistreat animals but not the fault of the racetrack.

With the Biden win, the lunatics are coming out of the woodwork. Like zombies, they appear out of nothingness. And chaos begins

Horse deaths matter but human abortions are ok!

I’m very sorry for mistreated horses, but animal rights activists will never relent. As soon as horse racing is shut down these people will retrain their efforts on banning hunting, pets, carnivory, and on and on and on until you’re not allowed to go for a walk without sweeping insects out of your path with a whisk broom.

Commie riot miscreants conflicting with COVID hysteria.

Schadenfreude.

I love horse racing. Except stopped watching when jockeys and assorted racing orgs started advertising for and honoring BLM. Just like every other sports his year.

But did they pay homage to BLM?

Maybe the small tracks won’t, but I don’t know.

“Kill the kids, save the horses!”

Democrats are mindless drones, like the Borg on Star Trek. The collective is programmed to stay together with the assimilation

2 Horses tied to the Chains and Dragging them all around the Track would have given the Spectators more than their moneys worth for the day.

A few years ago nobody expected the freaks claiming to be "transgendered" would ever be accepted anywhere. But now they're accepted in the US Armed Forces.

With that in mind I'm convinced that the day will come when meat is illegal in this country. Of course that doesn't mean that I intend to stop eating it.

Keep it accurate: it wasn’t a Biden win...it was a Biden steal.

Isn’t it, though. And what a glorious view of San Francisco Bay. I can’t even imagine what the real estate is worth. It makes me concerned that the pressure to sell will bring about closure in the foreseeable future
