Never Mind Peak Oil, Global Forecaster Calls Peak Gasoline
Rupert Murdoch's WSJ ^ | Happy St Patrick's Day, March 17, 2021 | David Hodari and William Boston

Posted on 03/17/2021 10:17:52 AM PDT by SunkenCiv

The IEA said daily gasoline demand dropped by a record 2.9 million barrels in 2020, down more than 10% from the previous year.

The world's thirst for gasoline isn't likely to return to pre-pandemic levels, the International Energy Agency forecast, calling a peak for the fuel that has powered personal transportation for more than a century.

The Paris-based energy watchdog, in its closely followed five-year forecast, said an accelerating global shift toward electric vehicles, along with increasing fuel efficiency among gasoline-powered fleets, will more than outweigh demand growth from countries in the developing world.

The forecast comes as auto makers have pivoted recently to boost their EV fleets, after years of industry skepticism about whether car buyers would ever embrace fully electric models. General Motors Co . said it would stop selling gas-powered vehicles by 2035. Volvo Cars of Sweden has said it would be all-electric by 2030.

The world will have 60 million electric vehicles on its roads by 2026, the IEA said, up from 7.2 million in 2019. The agency tracks EV trends closely as an important signal for gasoline and crude-oil demand.

The shift toward electric vehicles has been driven by government regulation, hefty incentives in developed countries and broader consumer acceptance of the technology, in part thanks to popular models like those sold by Tesla Inc. EVs still make up a small proportion of the world's overall fleet, and auto makers say they expect to see growing demand for gas-burning internal combustion engines, particularly in the developing world, for years to come.

I see the WSJ regularly, which is often enough to know the WSJ is anything but regular.

At times I have seen them report a terrific falling off in demand for petroleum products, primarily from such advanced economic & environmental powerhouses as France, Germany, Russia and, top of the top, of course, China.

On the opposite page will be a story about rising oil prices and the shortage in the powerhouses mentioned above.

At my last count the whole paper is two or three oil booms behind and, in the grand traditions of leftists everywhere, will simply throw out a weeks's worth of bogus research and will hold the stories until their made-up versions at last will come vaguely to reflect reality.

A big scoop! (of what we won't say).

Call me skeptical.

I’m a retired academic, I can make up facts with the best of them.

One course I still remember from 45 years ago was a senior level philosophy class. Gonzaga's always had a core curriculum. It was one of the few classes I had where the professor was a Jesuit priest.

I was intimidated at the start, 12 of my 13 classmates were theology or philosophy majors. When I received a good grade on the first assignment, Wittgenstein's Blue and Brown Books, I was very surprised.

The professor laughed at my reaction, and said "when it comes to philosophy, it's not what you say, it's how you say it. Philosophy is nothing but a bunch of bull $hit."

I ended up getting a B in that class, and I worked my tail off for it. It boosted my confidence, to say the least.

“I am an expert ... because I say so”

(Don Henley, ‘The Garden of Allah”)

Today I made an appearance downtown
I am an expert witness because I say I am
And I said gentlemen, and I use that world loosely
I will testify for you, I’m a gun for hire,I’m a saint, I’m a liar
Because there are no facts, there is no truth
Just data to be manipulated
I can get you any result you like
What’s it worth to you?
Because there is no wrong, there is no right
And I sleep very well at night
No shame, no solution, no remorse, no retribution
Just people selling t-shirts
Just opportunity to participate in the pathetic little circus
And winning, winning, winning

It was pretty big year for predators
The marketplace was on a roll
And the land of opportunity
Spawned a whole new breed of men without souls
This year notoriety got all confused with fame
And the devil is downhearted babe, cause
There’s nothing left for him to claim

My dad used to refer to them as “assperts” because they didn’t know their asses from a hole in the ground. He passed away in 1990 long before todays version of journalism, but his term was a valid then as it is today.

Peak gasoline is pretty much the opposite of Peak Oil.

When dealing with lawyers, always get a cashier’s check in advance.
If case is settled before your expert testimony, return half.

But of course Rupert Murdoch's WSJ lacks any bias. Millions are unemployed so I expect they expect them to be so poor that whey will not be able to afford a car and will have to walk to work. All farmers should be out of business soon so no fuel will be needed to grow food. We will have nothing and be nappy./s

That’s some old gas there. :^) The amount driving I did went down considerably during the partial shutdown at my work (2 days vs 5, still paid though), and my recent vacay (not much of a vacay, btw) also cut into my usual driving. I plan to tank up on the way to work one day this week, and get an oil change perhaps, and basically little else until my 2nd vax next week, which requires a trip into the Big City. ;^)

The cancellation of KeystoneXL, the continued failure to drill in the ANWR, and the economic warfare against crude and methane in the SW is going to result in upward pressure on prices. My guess is, liquid fuel made from cheap methane will probably still catch on. Methane-fueled -adapted vehicles will probably have a bit of a revival. Methane fuel cells for electrical generation will probably emerge at last. In the meanwhile, I think we can expect sticky-downward prices, and anyone who blames the middlemen for that is just a *****.

I don’t know what to think. Eventually electric cars are going to drastically tank the demand for gasoline.

How much energy goes into producing a motor vehicle (EV or conventional gasoline engined) vs. the amount of energy it consumes during it’s working life? I think that number would surprise.

and anyone who blames the middlemen...

The state of colorado disregarded a proposition the people passed in general election and the first bill our gay mafia governor polis sighed was to destroy the crude oil industry. Our dictators hiding behind a claim of transparency seek to destroy the ability of “We the People” for self determination and freedom to travel.

Democratic Party? Apparently not.

The change in the media between WW2 and Vietnam was very striking. From Ernie Pyle to Walter Cronkite-— who worked for the North Vietnamese in the end. In an earlier era he would have been hanged fro his lying treasonous support of Ho Chi Minh during Tet. The media has only gotten worse since.

My truck sits for awhile now. It’s on a trickle charger and I fuel with non-ethanol, with PRIG additive.

It’s going to get interesting and expensive cracking oil if gas becomes a waste product. You get it wanted, or not. Jp10, diesel and bitumin for roofing will have to be priced to make up the loss.

Back in Rockefeller’s day they wanted kerosene and dumped gasoline until people started driving cars.

“...until just last week. I was starting to worry about the quality of gas in my tank”.

Thats interesting. In the past week or so I have had the feeling that the gas mileage on my vehicle suddenly decreased substantially. Wonder if they have reduced the octane?

Mine was reduced because I was only doing local driving. I did a bit of freeway driving and it was what it used to be.
