A few “super carriers” with off-the-charts viral loads are likely responsible for the bulk of COVID-19 transmissions, while about half of infected people aren’t contagious at all at the time of diagnosis, suggests a new CU Boulder analysis of more than 72,000 test samples.
A second, related study lends further credence to the idea that viral load, or the amount of virus particles a person carries, drives contagion. It found that only one in five university students who tested positive while living in a residence hall infected their roommate. And their viral load was nearly seven times higher than those who didn’t spread the virus.
“The takeaway from these studies is that most people with COVID don’t get other people sick, but a few people get a lot of people sick,” said Sara Sawyer, a professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology and senior author of the first study. “If you don’t have a viral super-carrier sitting near you at dinner, you might be OK. But if you do, you’re out of luck. It’s a game of roulette so you have to continue to be careful.”

You would think a more precise or surgical response could be achieved rather than our cut the head off approach we are using now to combat the spread of WuFlu.
Eh this was eye opening to me anyways.
So the vast majority have their lives turned into a never ending shit show to accommodate a small minority.
COVID is liberalism.
They call her Covid Mary
“while about half of infected people aren’t contagious at all at the time of diagnosis”
Probably like any other cold virus.
It has been known for a while that PCR tests were much more sensitive than the alarmingly efficient superspreaders, which represent only 2-10 percent of infections. Hopefully there won’t be as much pressure to get a vaccine as to wear masks.
I work at a university and we figured this out a while back. But there are lawyers.... Basically, you stayed away from college students. The grocery store was fine but otherwise no meaningful contact. You don’t get your haircut because the barber services college students. College students signal their virtue but don’t practice social distancing at all.
I get vaccinated on Friday and then 14 days.
“The takeaway from these studies is that most people . . don’t get other people sick, but a few people get a lot of people sick,”

Yes, It’s called the Democratic Party!
Ping
How many college students have died from COVID? Very few.
So we're talking about #SuperLoads?
I believe this is not an uncommon dynamic with a good many viral contagions. I’m not sure if there are other viruses that see this kind of hyper-spread among a super-minority of carriers. But, ‘super-spreader’ have long been known to be a thing.
There is another thing the report highlights that needs further investigation.
Obviously a “super-spreader” (s0meone with a very high viral load) who is still asymptomatic has something going on with their immune system that is preventing whatever viral load they have from causing an illness. Exactly what defense(s) their systems have needs to be investigated. If everyone had their immune systems the Covid-19 virus would be another innocuous bug we carry with no ill affect - like millions of other such bugs for which that is already the case.
Yes, it’s interesting that so many people have been unable to understand what viral loads are.
Bioweapon anyone?
I wonder if any of it might be due to whoever gets diagnosed and then contact traced to loads of new PCR tests.
I admire your clever tongue-in-cheek humor!
Well now I want a t-shirt that says “superspreader”
