Daunte Wright, the 20-year-old black man fatally shot during a traffic stop in Minnesota, was “afraid police would do something like this to him,” according to a local educator who mentored Wright.
Jonathan Mason, a youth development specialist who became close with Wright when he was a student at Edison High School in Minneapolis said he, Wright and other young black men often talked about how to handle interactions with cops.

Plus, they are making this guy out to be a Saint.

Did they come to the conclusion that non-compliance and then running away was the smartest course of action?
White or black, if you don’t want to get shot by the cops don’t do really stupid sh*t. It’s really quite simple.
No. I’ll bet he was as surprised as the officer that it wasn’t a taser.
Are U sayin it might turn U into stone?
Didn’t he have an arrest warrant for gun possession? I guess his “mentor” wasn’t very good.

When I get pulled over, I always put my hands on the steering wheel, and wait for the officer, and move slowly and calmly - even in the situation where I’ve had a dispute with a police officer over what happened (he was clearly having a bad day).
If he was that afraid he should have just complied and let the lawyers sort it out.
Did they not watch the Chris Rock video?
Stopped him for an air freshener? Didn’t deserve death but he resisted.
It’s really quite simple.
Usually, but not always.
The first dumb thing is not responding to an outstanding warrant for your arrest. I haven’t heard what the warrant was for.
Judging by all of these episodes, clearly that was and is the agreed upon approach.
They still haven’t said exactly what the outstanding warrant was for. However, he was arrested for aggravated robbery (that’s armed robbery, a felony) in February of this year. He was AMAZINGLY released ROR (without bail being posted). It doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to see how he misses his court date resulting in a new arrest warrant being issued.
Interestingly, he was being compliant right up until the female officer told the contact officer that he (Wright) had outstanding warrants. I believe she said ‘warrantS,’ so it’s possible he had multiple warrants for his arrest. Whatever the case, it was at that very moment that Wright tried to flee.
Only his mother says it was an air freshener, as supposedly related by him.
And O.J. is still looking for Nicole’s killer...
Well, it was a handgun, and he was almost 21. I wonder if his mentor has seen the photos of the wads of cash.
I guess his parents never gave him “the talk”.
