We are the same way with our location in Californicator land.

One son and his family are 30/45 minutes away and the other family is 45-60 minutes away.

Here in California, we have great neighbors, some good friends going back decades. A great church that is re opening.

Our siblings in the midwest/southwest have the same good things going for them. None of us want to fly anymore. We talk on the phone weekly and send a lot of texts and emails.
We do miss the personal contact, but our parents and grandparents would have loved to be alive now with the ability to reach and touch their loved ones electronically 24/7.

Good post, Grampa Dave. I was stationed in Germany from 77-81, before Al Gore invented the Internet. Virtually all communication with my parents was via letters, the cost of a phone call was prohibitive.

My mom told me about her cousin enlisting the day after Pearl Harbor. After boot camp, he called his mom from the shipyards in San Francisco, to let her know he was shipping out, to parts unknown.

It would be three plus years before their next contact.
