Canada Is Battling Another Pipeline Cancelation By The U.S.

Biden is coming under fire for his attack on oil and gas once again as Canada pleads to keep the cross-border Great Lakes oil pipeline open. Canada is battling against the state of Michigan to keep the cross-border pipeline open as calls to enhance the joint response to climate change

...

It is important to remember that the U.S. relies heavily on Canada for much of its crude oil imports, consuming around 3.7 million barrels per day, or about 80 percent of Canada's crude output.

Line 5 is supposed to close by May 13,

...

The pipeline currently provides energy to Michigan, Ontario and Quebec, to an area of around 40 million people, meaning the disruption caused by this closure would be significant.

This is the second major pipeline that has prompted a dispute between the U.S. and Canada since resident Biden came to office earlier this year. The first was the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline project in January. The pipeline was expected to transport 800,000 bpd of crude between Alberta and refineries in the U.S.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed disappointment in this decision and Alberta Premier Jason Kenney called the decision a “gut punch” and an “insult”; threatening legal action to recover the $1.5 billion investment by Alberta for the project.

A significant proportion of jobs were lost in relation to the cancellation of Keystone, and the closing of line 5 threatens Canada’s oil and gas industry further.

...

climate change

....

If deemed necessary, Ottawa could go so far as to invoke the 1977 Transit Pipelines Treaty to stop the closure that would hinder the transit of Canadian oil.

Who owns the trains that would replace the pipeline? What’s his connection in WashDC?

Uhhh...that would be Warren Buffet, I believe! So the canucks are bitching about shutting the pipeline down while they shut the border and all commerce. I thought oil caused global warming! Shouldn’t they be jumping up and down with joy (and to keep from freezing to death)? Interesting times indeed!

The advantage to being a holier-than-thou Canuck is that no matter what you do it is perfectly justifiable.

Maybe Canada should act like a sovereign nation instead of a whiney little bitch. Canada needs to go after Buffet because his business activities are causing them economic difficulties. Perhaps they need to orchestrate a short on some Buffet investments.

“Line 5, built in 1953, is part of Enbridge’s mainland system, which carries fuel from Alberta’s oil sands to the Midwestern United States and Eastern Canada. Running from Superior, Wis., to Sarnia, Ontario, it is a key conduit for refineries in those regions, which make gas, propane and home-heating oils, as well as jet fuels for airports in Toronto and Detroit....

Whitmer announced last fall that she was revoking the 1953 easement that allows the lines to cross the straits, citing the “unreasonable risk” that they pose to the Great Lakes and what she said were Enbridge’s “persistent” breaches of the easement’s terms....

Enbridge is challenging the move in U.S. federal court. It has vowed to continue operating the pipeline beyond Whitmer’s deadline, absent a court order. The sides began mediation in April....

“Line 5 is operating safely, reliably and is in compliance with the law,” said Tracie Kenyon, an Enbridge spokeswoman. “The State of Michigan has never presented any concrete evidence to suggest otherwise.”...

Seamus O’Regan, Canada’s natural resources minister, has cast a shutdown as a threat to Canada’s energy security – one he is “watching like a hawk.” He told a parliamentary committee in March that the pipeline provides 53 percent of Ontario’s crude and 66 percent of Quebec’s and 55 percent of Michigan’s propane needs....

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley told The Washington Post that Whitmer’s behaviour is doing “immense” damage to cross-border ties....

This is going to work out as well for Biden as it did for Obama. I hope it works out the same for me too, made a lot of dough off Obama, and so far so good with Bidobama.
