Major US Pipelines Closure Enters 4th Day After Cyberattack
Newsmax ^ | 10 May 2021

The U.S. government and the top U.S. fuel pipeline operator on Monday worked to secure the network that transports nearly half of the East Coast's supplies as a shutdown to halt a ransomware cyberattack entered its fourth day.

The attack on Colonial Pipeline last week was one of the most disruptive digital ransom schemes ever reported and has sent shockwaves across the industry. The resulting shutdown has disrupted fuel supply across the eastern United States, triggered isolated sales restrictions at retail pumps and pushed benchmark gasoline prices to a three-year high.

....

The southeastern United States would likely be the first to see price increases at retail pumps, and demand has already picked up as drivers fill regional storage tanks. The southeast is the most dependent on the line and has fewer alternatives than states further north, and has seen prices spike during previous shutdowns.

...

While the U.S. government investigation into the attack is in its early stages, a former U.S. official and three industry sources said the hackers are suspected to be a cybercriminal group called DarkSide.

Cybersecurity experts said the group appears to be composed of veteran cybercriminals focused on squeezing as much money as they can from their targets.

...

The line supplies jet fuel to major airports including the nation's busiest, Hartsfield-Jackson International in Atlanta. The airport expects the outage to be resolved before any impact on flights, a spokesman said.

An alternative, smaller conduit that serves the same region has already filled. Kinder Morgan Inc's 720,000-bpd fuel pipeline had been working with customers to take on additional volumes since Friday and reached full capacity for May on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the company told Reuters.

If the disruption stretches on, fuel suppliers would need to use trucks and rail to transport fuel to compensate.

Biden is coming under fire for his attack on oil and gas once again as Canada pleads to keep the cross-border Great Lakes oil pipeline open. .

It is important to remember that the U.S. relies heavily on Canada for much of its crude oil imports, consuming around 3.7 million barrels per day, or about 80 percent of Canada's crude output.

Line 5 is supposed to close by May 13..

Major US Pipelines Closure Enters 4th Day After Cyberattack

Day 4? This implies the company lacks an uncontaminated backup of their database prior to the ransomeware attack or they would have done a restore by now.

“If the disruption stretches on, fuel suppliers would need to use trucks and rail to transport fuel to compensate.”

Oh? What’s the problem then? I thought the Democrats opposed pipelines. Why not tear this one down? After all, what’s another 2.5 million gallons of gasoline, a day, on our roads and rails?

For those FReepers living on the East Coast north of Atlanta it might be a good idea to top off the fuel tanks of your vehicle.

Meanwhile the CIA and FBI continue to be AWOL on attacks on the USA. Remember 9/11, the so called Russian collusion, etc. They’re great with their early morning raids on little old men. Now the CIA is more concerned with hiring women of color and LGBT.

Can’t wait to hear the screeching from the greenies that they can’t get the gas they need. Oh wait, what’s that? Pipelines ARE a crucial part of infrastructure for our country and national security now?

EMJOY THE SUCK!

Good thing Bi-dumb shut down keystone, otherwise his energy crisis would be more difficult. Seems like America is being attacked from all sides, and Biden eats pudding.

Underlying this entire story are some nasty little facts that eco-whacko leftist either don't know, or don't want you to know. There are thousands upon thousand of miles of pipelines in America. They don't want Americans to know that they have operated safely for years and pose no environmental threat. Pipelines are superior in safety compared to tanker trucks and trains. The arguments these leftists use against projects like the Keystone pipeline are completely bogus and without any facts.

It's all about their religion of scientism, based on irrational and contrived fear designed to destroy capitalism in America and to ruin our quality of life. They are so invested in their delusions that one day millions of people will die. That isn't hyperbole. The Soviets killed million through starvation when they confiscated farms and gave those lands to people who had no idea how to farm. The Soviets called it a famine, but it was due to centralized industrialization and a planned economy. To put it bluntly, they were messing with stuff that they had no expertise. That is not unlike the leftists in this country to spread propaganda about fracking, oil and natural gas production. They have gone so far as to attack the delivery mechanisms, pipelines, in an attempt to favor unreliable wind and solar power to solve a contrived climate crisis.

If we do not fight back and destroy these leftists we will soon experience food shortages and freeze to death in winter. Summer may not be too much better.

Anyone talk to Warren Buffet about this attack?

Railroads could be paralyzed by ransomware too.

Wonder how we moved oil before computers and the internet. Pre-computer tech worked for a long time.

The problem with computers on the internet is that you don’t know what they’re being told to do, i.e. what software is being stuffed into them.
