Oklahoma Names Portion Of Highway After Trump

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed a bill naming a stretch of highway in the state after former President Donald Trump, KTUL reported over the weekend.

According to the legislation, which was one of 41 other bills Stitt signed and which will take effect on November 1, the section of State Highway 287 that starts in Boise City, extends 20 miles along the panhandle, and finishes on the southeast Oklahoma-Texas border, will be named after the former president.

Republican legislators slipped the Trump highway proposal into the state legislature's annual omnibus bill naming bridges and highways, which is usually uncontroversial, according to The Oklahoman.

The Oklahoma Legislature’s Senate Minority Leader Kay Floyd briefly put a spoke in the wheel of the legislation when she pointed out that state law says a person must be dead for at least three years before a highway or bridge can be named in their honor, with the only exception being Medal of Honor recipients.

However, Republicans solved that problem by passing an amendment to the law that eliminated the three-year requirement.

GOP lawmakers who backed the proposal plan to pay for signage for the highway with the former president’s name on it.

Two years ago, two Republican senators in the Oklahoma legislature attempted to name a part of Route 66 after Trump...

Unfortunately they’ll have to change the name after they see the amount of trash dumped beside the road and damage to Trump signs.

I was thinking exactly the same.

No, we need to as aggressively police as the Left has done about their so called BLM murals which are nothing more than lettering on the pavement. Conservatives need to get in their faces as much as the Marxists have done to us.

Paging Governor Abbott...paging Governor Abbott...are you listening?

I’d LOVE to see this happen all over every red state in the country. Abbott, DeSantis better be paying attention. They just got one-upped.

Yeah, liberals will try to trash out signs, dump garbage ont he road sides, we have these things called video cameras. They’ve been using them to hand out tickets at red lights for years, (which Abbott stopped) we’ve gotten several bills for toll roads, wouldn’t be hard to hand out tickets for littering and the signs I see say $1000 fine. Port Arthur has been using their red light cameras to ID drivers with outstanding warrants.

This is great, I want to see it all over the US.

I doubt very highly if they are going to put up and maintain expensive cameras to protect inexpensive signs, especially on this lonely stretch of highway. It would be less expensive to replace the vandalized signs.

Probably not. It's literally a road to nowhere.

I like Trump too; but it’s a bad precedent, especially when the politician is still alive and into politics.

The Oklahoma panhandle is deep dyed red, with the nearest city being Amarillo, Texas. I doubt soyboys or ghetto stompers would drive hundreds of miles from Albuquerque or DFW to try to pull off vandalism. They might find themselves the victims of extreme prejudice.
