Officials are worried that the US could face increased summer bloodshed — after mass shootings in three states left two people dead and 30 wounded Friday night into Saturday morning.
“It’s very disturbing what we’re seeing across the country and the level of gun violence that we’re seeing across the country,” Savannah’s police chief, Roy Minter, Jr. told reporters Saturday.
“It’s disturbing and it’s senseless.”
The top cop made the statement after one man was killed and seven other people were wounded, including two children, during a shooting at an apartment complex in the Georgia city.
Meanwhile, in Austin, Texas, cops arrested one suspect after a fight between two groups sparked a shooting spree on a crowded pedestrian plaza packed with revelers. Fourteen people were injured, and another suspect was still being sought.

Is this gun violence or gang violence?
Gangs aren’t violent. Guns are.
OK I was able to track down a description of the suspect at large from RT. The local papers were with holding the information to avoid stereotyping people.

But the description included several details that set the suspect’s appearance apart from the vast majority of Austin’s population – potentially a safety benefit for local residents. Police clearly considered it worth telling the public, saying one of the suspects was a “black male with dreadlocks, wearing a black shirt and a skinny build.”
Many social media users said the media outlet was putting its political agenda ahead of public safety. “They are literally putting people’s lives at risk just to be politically correct,” one commenter said. “I bet if their children were in that area, they would tell them to stay away from anyone matching the description.”
