Collins says infrastructure bill won't have gas tax increase or undo 2017 tax reform bill

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Sunday said the infrastructure bill announced by a bipartisan group of 10 senators will not include a gas tax increase or undo the 2017 tax reform bill.

When asked by host John Dickerson on CBS’s “Face the Nation” how the group plans to pay for the package, Collins, who is part of the bipartisan coalition, silenced rumors of a gas tax increase or rolling back the 2017 tax reform bill, while outlining the group’s strategies for financing the initiatives.

Collins said the group, which includes five senators from each party, is considering three “pay fors”: an infrastructure financing authority, repurposing leftover COVID-19 funding and “a provision for electric vehicles to pay their fair share of using our roads and bridges right now.”

“They are literally free riders because they're not paying any gas tax. So those are three of the provisions that we've taken a look at,” Collins said.

The group of senators on Thursday announced an agreement on a “compromise framework” to invest $1.2 trillion in infrastructure over the next eight years, after President Biden last week ended negotiations with Republicans that were led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.),

Collins is a typical globalist s’bag. Her concern is taxes while the rest of us see our nation slipping away.

She’s a Liar.

They wanted Joe Biden and the unaccountable spending spree that paus off the big Cities (Dem) debts and allows them to pay off special interests and further erase the middle class.

They sabotaged Trump and refused to look at Joe’s finances for this Big City payoff.

Cities like NY and Chicago say - see our Economic plan works.

Erase the middle class.

Say what you want about Collins, but she’s a savvy and shrewd politician. The Dems aren’t going to agree to no gas tax increase. And Collins being a RINO can’t be attacked by the liberal media.

The taxes we save are being siphoned by inflation. And quickly too. The groper economy is already sickly even WITH the bump provided by Trump’s Operation Warp Speed.

Very true. Taxes are the only thing they gave Trump and that’s because the Chamber of Commerce demanded it.

Low taxes and reduced spending are what the GOPe types took from Reagan’s time in office. Things like Liberty, Freedom, strict adherence to the Constitution simply slipped their minds.

#11 = so very true. Conservative Inc. has stood by and watched our nation be driven into a ditch as they made TV appearances and wrote op eds in the Wall Street Journal. I’d call them useless but that would suggest they had value.

Marxist takeovers are harder when there’s a middle class.

So for this mumbling beoatch that’s perfectly fine that something as insignificant as a gasoline tax isn’t included in the trillion dollar bill. Maybe next election we can get a Senator back in Georgia to offset getting rid of this Dummy. It is just a matter of time before the Rats take this seat back anyway. She is an embarrassment.

Exactly. This so-called “compromise” bill must be thoroughly rejected. Or do a bill for exact $1 with unanimous consent if the Stupid Party is so worried that they have to be seen as collaborating with Sleepy Joe and his illegal US authorities.

So we’re getting a gas tax increase and undoing the Trump tax cuts then.
