After Trump’s flattery, GOP hits Biden as weak on Russia

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans are accusing President Joe Biden of being weak on Russia after his summit with Vladimir Putin, conveniently ignoring four years of Putin flattery from former President Donald Trump.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Biden had given Putin a “pass” at their summit in Switzerland Wednesday, while Trump said the U.S. “didn’t get anything” from the meeting. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a potential 2024 contender, declared, “America today is weaker than it was on the world stage just 48 hours ago.”

It’s a curious line of attack from a party that largely turned a blind eye as Trump spent four years praising the Russian strongman, including stunning comments at a 2018 joint press conference in Helsinki during which Trump sided with Putin over his own intelligence agencies’ conclusion that Russia had meddled in the 2016 U.S. to help elect Trump.

“President Biden should have used yesterday’s summit to show that the United States will hold Russia accountable for its long list of transgressions, Instead, he gave Vladimir Putin a pass,” McCarthy tweeted. “We need real leadership that puts the American people first again.”

Calling into Sean Hannity’s Fox News Channel show, Trump said Biden’s summit had accomplished too little — repeating criticism Trump himself faced for holding two summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that produced few measurable changes, while elevating the dictator on the world stage.

“We gave a very big stage to Russia and we got nothing,” Trump said Wednesday night. “And you know, you have to form your own judgments, it’s not for me to say. But I will say that I think it was a good day for Russia. I don’t see what we got out of it.”

I remember when the AP at least pretended to be unbiased.

This is not journalism, it is flagrant propaganda. Found those Hamas operatives in the office upstairs yet AP?

“ignoring four years of Putin flattery from former President Donald Trump”

After all this time, they STILL DON’T GET IT.

Our PDJT is a negotiator, deal-maker and master of the nudge. He knows how to position pieces. Be nice before you negotiate. It can be off-putting and disarming.

It takes the fangs out of the other side so they can’t bite without looking like total fools.

Biden accomplished nothing. And last week...as instructed by Germany...told Putin to go..go..go with the new pipeline.

Meanwhile, here in the USA...Biden says NO...NO...NO...to any pipe line.

They could at least pretend to not be writing an opinion piece. Regardless...who really cares about Russia? It would be better to be allied with them than endlessly antagonizing them just to justify our huge military budget.

Our establishment GOP foreign policy wonks have it wrong. They are still intellectually back in the cold war era. False flaggers like Bolton. Tough on a Russia that is no longer a threat to us but weak on a China that has been financially and technologically infiltrating us for decades.

“America today is weaker than it was on the world stage just 48 hours ago.” It’s a curious line of attack. . .

I guess the "line of attack" left a curiously deep mark on the soul of the AP and other dutiful occupants of the echo-chamber. The words "weaker than we were 48 hours ago" are hard to casually rub away, aren't they?

Trump is very good at playing the little boy in "The Emperor's New Clothes" who points out that the guy is naked.

Score about 1,000 for Trump. The first 200 is for precision and accuracy. The last 800 is for saying what everyone, including American liberals, was quietly thinking.

Amazing how they managed to get Trump’s name in the title regarding an issue that had nothing to do with him. The America Pravda has been instructed to keep the narrative unchanged.

"After all this time, they STILL DON’T GET IT."

I suspect they get it, otherwise there would be no mention of Mr. Trump.

Fanatical leftists are actually in a panic mode, knowing the entire planet realizes babblin' biden is merely a sock puppet.

The window is closing fast for the kids in the candy store.

I do think that Trump had it right about us needing to bury the hatchet with Russia. However he should not have discussed it publicly. You don’t make public announcements about your troop movements. This is the same deal.

conveniently ignoring four years of Putin flattery from former President Donald Trump.

My goodness - pants on fire from this AP reporter. Did Trump approve or oppose the pipeline to Germany? How about Biden? Did Trump approve or cancel our own pipeline? How about Biden? Did Trump send troops to counter Russian influence in Syria? How about Biden? Could go on and on. Trump was very tough on Russia - stating otherwise is a lie.
