California residents again urged to conserve power in heat wave

California residents were asked to voluntarily conserve power again Friday as a heat wave baking the U.S. West strained the state’s energy grid and raised the possibility of rotating outages.

As temperatures spiked on Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an emergency proclamation that suspended certain permitting requirements, allowing power plants to ramp up operations if necessary to meet the demand for electricity. The proclamation cited the “extreme heat peril” facing the state this week.

The California Independent System Operator, which runs the energy grid, issued a Flex Alert for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. During those hours, people are urged to set their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher and avoid using washers, dishwashers and other major appliances. An alert was also in place Thursday evening.

Pacific Gas & Electric said rotating power outages were possible Thursday night in parts of Yuba and Placer counties in Northern California.

ERCOT has been telling the same thing to Texans the past week or so. Political decisions (or lack of quality ones) have ruined the country as a whole.

Massive requirement for electric cars should get CA into bona fide third world status—the power is on sometimes, sometimes not...and best of all—it is shut off without warning.

Fun fun fun!

As this continues on it’s natural course those who can will purchase and install generators.

Guess what fuel generators use? That’s right FOSSIL FUELS! Natural Gas, Diesel, and Gasoline.

So instead of internal combustion vehicles using the fossil fuel it will be used (without catalytic converters) to create electricity to charge their electric vehicles - thus creating ANOTHER level of energy conversion loss.

Science and logic cannot be used in Democrat party states.

(Either that or they will regulate/prohibit the use of generators. Except for the government and/or the elite)

Yes...suck it up buttercups...literally! When I told some electric car genius that his utopia would turn to hell in the middle of summer (or winter), in stop and go traffic...wherever, he just had a dumb look on his face! Did not get it...very sad!

Water shortages, electricity brownouts, high taxes, sanctuary state for illegals, unaffordable housing near coast, what’s not to like about Kalifornia?

The third world approach to power utilization is very political—the wealthy and powerful get power first, everyone else gets intermittent power.

Because solar panels are miles and miles away from the house. Needs expensive infra-structure to transport Electricity from the solar farms to her residence. And there is power loss transporting electricity over many miles.

And those car batteries last only so long and are very expensive to replace. If you are on a long drive and can’t find a charging station on route, you will get stranded. Whereas you can refuel gasoline car in 10 minutes or less, charging a car battery is several hours.

It takes very little backup diesel generating capacity to keep a gas station fuel pumps going. That station can then provide 1000s of cars with needed fuel.

What about those silly electric cars? Oh ya, nada.

The first role of free government is to provide for the people and insure the common welfare.
Power utilities are strictly a government controlled and regulated service.
This is a failing government.

“It takes very little backup diesel generating capacity to keep a gas station fuel pumps going.”

Only the stations are not wired for that.

Other states sending electricity to help will soon end - as democrat politicians are closing clean coal, cost efficient , already paid for, reliable 24/7 power plants.

“It takes very little backup diesel generating capacity to keep a gas station fuel pumps going.” Only the stations are not wired for that.

Actually, the truth is in Louisiana and Florida gas stations are required by state law to have exactly that, backup generation capability. In other states, there is no law, but some stations have backup generation capability by choice. Your blanket statement is just not true.
