It pays to stay unemployed. That might be a good thing (The charts are a must see!)

Americans have lost jobs by the millions as the coronavirus pandemic continues to bludgeon the U.S. economy. However, many jobless workers stand to reap a financial benefit from their layoffs. Some could more than double their prior salaries.

The distortion results from the $2.2 trillion economic relief bill enacted in March, which boosted jobless benefits to a level unseen since the unemployment insurance program was created in the 1930s.

Around 40% of all workers could theoretically earn more while unemployed than going back to work, according to an analysis by Noah Williams, director of the Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

My hubby and I were shocked watching local news last night. It was about Maryland or Baltimore dropping unemployment benefit.

Guess what exists?!?

“UNemployed workers Union”!!!!!

I personally don’t understand the mindset of someone accepting near poverty income level. I like to go on vacation, buy something nice from time to time. Treat my wife and kids to a nice dinner out. Unemployment checks don’t cover that.

No, I don't agree with it, but the charts showing the percentage of people getting more on unemployment are something I hadn't seen before. I knew it was happening, but the actual scale it . . wow.

It is NOT the coronavirus pandemic continues to bludgeon the U.S. economy.

Democrat GOVERNMENT continues to bludgeon the U.S. economy.

The unemployment boost is ending for all 50 states in September and for a few red states they have already been ended.

I know Arkansas is paying out $325 for a family of 3, weekly.

How is this more than the earning potential of a regular job ?

What are these regular jobs ? Are people working 2 or 4 part time jobs and only counting the pay of one in the data ?

My lib sister had 4 kids when she was on the state. She made more on the state than she could with a regular job. (Although to her credit she used this time to tirelessly go to night school and get into nursing to support her family)

Still there was no job out there that could provide the food, healthcare and income that welfare could have provided. In 1998 she would have needed to stumble into a $20/hour job to make up for the difference. And that was in CT.

Here in AR I’m not seeing anyone doing well on the PUA or state unemployment. But the healthcare in all these states is equivalent to $2000/month packages. IT covers everything without a copay or deductible. And food can also give a family of 3 about $500 a month in stamps.

This means that in order to get a real job that real job would need to be about $15 an hour - at least. Most new jobs in Ark are paying minimum to $13 an hour.

What I do in Uber pays between 20 and 30 an hour... just delivering food so you don’t even need a great car (or great PDW)

The math doesn’t make sense.

In California it’s $1100/week, tax-free.

What is amazing is that people actually believe this is a good thing. Wages going higher, just like the commies AOC and Biden want, but costs are moving higher, faster than labor, so folks at the bottom of the marketplace, whether working or not, will get screwed.

Socialism hurts the poor the most. Always has, always will. Forces them to consider revolution.....Capitalism will get blamed for their ever worsening position.

“Around 40% of all workers could theoretically earn more while unemployed than going back to work”

They got two things entirely wrong. If they are on unemployment, they are not “workers” they are unemployed. If they are unemployed then they do not “earn” anything, they are receiving it.

Amen to that.

I've been receiving W-2's since 1978 when I was a 16-year-old collecting shopping carts and bagging groceries at the local supermarket. Never been unemployed since. Never once over the past 44 years have I filed for unemployment. Have no idea how that even works.

For somebody to "make more" on unemployment, well that's a pretty sad statement on their lives.

From my perspective these companies are really stupid. It hasn’t occurred to them there are millions of retired and very experienced folk willing to work part time only as they’ve already worked 25, 35 years etc, and they have no desire to work full time. Yet most jobs are still seeking full time applicants.

I find that very odd.
