How does a 4 year old pull the trigger with the barrel anywhere near his body? Was it a short barrel job? Are they legal?

Barrel lengths are 3.5-5 or so inches on average with a trigger pressure of just a few pounds, and weigh only a few lbs as well.
A 4 year child could discharge or just trying to grab it, a trigger “safety” is designed to prevent accidental discharge (assuming it even had one) if it were to fall, but offers no protection if someone presses against the trigger.
