Yeah a novel virus breaks out down the street from a lab that works with novel viruses...probably shouldn’t be too quick to rule out a leak.

The CCP must have completed its destruction of the evidence so now it’s safe to talk about the lab leak.
After giving China a year and a-half to destroy the evidence and purge any lab personnel who might talk too much.
Alright, but the next question should be: “Why did you rule it out prematurely?” (and since we already know that reason), “What steps are you taking in the future to prevent politicization of your organization from interfering with its mission?”

The key question, “Is there any evidence it wasn’t a leak?”
Translation: now that we’ve been discredited its obvious China will quit funding us, so we might as well try to have some glimmer of creditability in hopes the western nations will fund us.

That's because they waited until this year. Initial numbers from the Chinese weren't bad until the government stepped in, after which they became, and still are, crap. The numbers from the United States aren't much more reliable. Politics ruins science.
