The State Department Has Abandoned Its CH-46 Helicopters in Afghanistan

The U.S. State Department has confirmed that seven CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters, also colloquially known as "Phrogs," belonging to its Air Wing have been rendered inoperable and abandoned in Afghanistan as part of the ongoing evacuation effort.

I get it, maybe, I' m trying to but I don't like it at all. More than anything because of the attitude of waste and just don't care that is demonstrated in this action. What I may get is these are not equipped for air-to-air refueling and can't make it to Pakistan? But were they really needed in the first place? They were located in kabul to fly DOS people from the air port to the embassy? If it was that freaking dangerous then how can it possibly be any better now?

What I don't get are lots of things. These aircraft, and there are many of them, were restored by the DOS for their own use for their "air wing", restored to LIKE NEW condition in 2012 and now, 8 or 9 years later they are just left as scrap? Left disabled? How? No wonder our giverment costs so much. I am very sickened by the giverment tonight. This is but one example of why.

It is not the nation I grew up in and not the nation I once loved. I just live here now, along for the ride. That is all we do anymore. Legal recourse is a joke and we all know it. How much would any business love to have an 8 year old reconditioned to like new condition helicopter? What would that be worth? Instead they will all be destroyed by the State Department. I'll bet they are really really nice inside. Bureaucrats spare none of our money for their comfort and safety.

I found the article while looking for any news about the evacuation but have found nothing but what I posted from the Daily Mail this morning. 2,000 out but only 300 or so Americans, the rest afghanis, planes not full but leaving anyway.

I'm writing my spinator and congress critter again. Why, I don't know. They are no better than Kevin Barely of Texas who had to fog a mirror so you could see if he was alive. The rinos are like Frank Burns when Hotlips did all the talking, make a whimpering sound senator so we will at least know you are alive. Frankly I should give up trying to exercise my rights. It takes a lot of effort and comes to nothing. Never does.

Once again I offer a link to easily write your representative. I laugh when I write this. "Your" representative. What a sad joke.

A few random things I think I deserve an answer to from my "representatives" but I know I won't get anything but the usual crap they spew. Not a thing concrete or responsible.

1. By what authority does the administration import thousands and thousands of Afghans to become dependents on the taxpayer dime? How does the administration have the authority to do this kind of thing unilaterally? I didn't vote for it, did you?

2. Americans are being toyed with by the State Department and this administration by having the opportunity to leave IF they can make it to the airport and past security. Just about anybody with two brain cells to rub together know this is nearly impossible. What part of this does anybody think is a rightful thing to do? It appears nothing but cruel to me.

3. Why can't our troops go out to collect Americans just as the French and British are doing?

4. Why aren't we getting a daily report of progress of the evacuation including the nationality and status of all evacuees and their ultimate destination?

5. These helicopters are property of the taxpayer. Why were they not taken care of to sustain the asset as property of the taxpayer instead of being abandoned and wasted just as so much military property was abandoned and not just wasted but given as aid to our enemy? Who is accountable to me for this? If not, why not?

6. Who will be accountable for this glaring failure of this administration in the loss of all of this equipment, squandering of public funds and failure to secure the safety of American citizens first and all others after?

7. Why can this administration allow so many illegals that are sick and unvaccinated into the country and disperse them at will? How can they do this and yet insist and coerce that we be vaccinated with drugs that have demonstrated more and severe side effects that would normally have them pulled from the market?

8. How is it that this administration can threaten us with all manner of penalties if we are not vaccinated and yet the White House staff has no such directive, CDC has no such directive. How can this be? How can this be right?

9. What plans are there to address each of these failures, and so many others, in the future? How will accountability be assured? I thought that was one of the roles of congress, oversight? Congress could do nothing but that from now on and never pass another useless law and be far more useful than they are now.

Rumsfeld hated adjectives and profaned their use in his organization. I do to, they water things down, they prevaricate. We have had enough of that. It is one of the reasons we are in the ditch.

It should be a cut from next year’s State Department budget.

Make them pay.

On the 20th anniversary of 9-11, the Biden Admin decides to arm the Taliban with serious war gear, and also import terrorists.

Stolen elections have serious consequences.

$30 Trillion in debt, and another $200 Trillion in unfunded liabilities, so money means nothing to DC, deep-state bubble-dwellers. Its one of many indications how narrow-minded they are

Seems like a normal person might thing these helicopters woudl be useful for moving AMERICANS from some secured inner city location to the airport, like maybe the $770 million now abandoned embassy?

This affair is an intentional cluster fluck. It was done with malice and forethought. Someones need to fry for it. Resignations are not good enough.

These were obsolete and they couldn’t get parts for them. The removed all the UH-60’s and left the ch-47’s which were due to be scrapped anyway.

No loss

“rendered inoperable”

If the State Dept. did it it means they just took the keys.

...have been rendered inoperable...

Looks like a good crew chief or pilot left a thermite grenade or two on the aft transmission/engines!

Hopefully, the responsible parties for much of our other equipment did likewise.

While I mostly flew the CH-53D and a good bit of time in the various UH-1E/L/N models, I did have about 10 hours in Frogs. Very stable hover and they stop on a dime.

Also spent a good bit of time as a grunt riding in the back of Frogs in Vietnam and elsewhere in WestPac.

I know this is mostly about waste, but I’d offer that it’s idiodic to bring the majority of afganis to the western world. Why would it not be more desirable to relocate the brain trust of translators, PR people, etc, who are familiar to the region to our other embassies in the ME ? Similar surroundings/culture/peoples and retaining assets who would be more closely connected to intel, blah blah. I can’t imagine there’s a shortage in America for translators?

I agree, we need to find the person who made the decision to leave the gear behing and put him in jail. Firing isn’t good enough.

Think.

I am back to my my old tricks of answering my own questions.

Why not use these for moving people? I’ll bet a whole lot that it is because some nimrod thought it would look too much like Saigon.

I got news for these fools, I am afraid before this is over they will wish it turns out as good as Saigon did.

They should have operational orders to shoot down any left-behind aircraft on the assumption that it doesn't belong to anyone other than United States military so it must be in the process of being used for unauthorized intent.
