I know, TLDR, but this article is well worth reading the whole thing.

People who value freedom are capable of tolerating dissent and of giving consideration to new ideas.

The Left isn’t like that. They have ... a simpler Solution.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could hold our positions on health matters in a space that allowed us to modify our positions when new data and interpretations present themselves?

OK, I know that’s a fantasy, but it’s how science actually works. Science is the practice of questioning things, constantly—offering alternative hypotheses to accepted “wisdom,” and then testing those new hypotheses. If you don’t hold “conventional wisdom” up to examination, then you’re not doing science, you’re doing propaganda. Questioning is how we grow our knowledge base in the first place. You can’t do that if you silence the questioners.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s not just medicine, but all science, particularly “climate science”.
They have become propagandists.
This is not the grocery company, but a 35 yr old health food publication…however, some people say there is a connection.
But before Freepers do a knee-jerk attack on Whole Foods (the grocery company), it was demonized during the Obama era because the company wouldn’t go into socialized medicine and actually had its own independent medical insurance program that even covered part-timers.
There’s still a lot of independent thinkers out there, even on what many would consider the left, and this article is a good example of that. And the author is tough enough to insist on freedom of speech and not let himself be intimidated. We need more like him.
When I started a major journey back to good health about 3 years ago, I became aware of the censorship & “persecution” of doctors, scientists, & true investigative journalists, to name a few, who were battling Big Ag/Big Pharma on the nutrition/food fronts. The SAD (Standard American Diet) is fueling the obesity epidemic and all that goes with it ... actually, it’s ‘metabolic syndrome’ and obesity is one of the symptoms. Type 2 Diabetes CAN be prevented, it CAN be reversed - you do not necessarily have to suffer kidney failure, amputations, lose your eyesight due to diabetic retinopathy .... T2D does not have to be chronic & progressive, but that is what the vast majority are told and believe. It is also what docs in med school are taught - funded by Big Pharma, of course.
Now, COVID is the newest cash cow. Big Pharma, Fauci, the Chinese, gov’t bureaucrats .... they’ve conspired to make tons of $$, just as Big Pharma/Ag have been doing with vegetable seed oils, processed foods, & a pill for every undesirable symptom, rather than correcting root causes. ALL of this is at the expense of peoples’ health ... they just don’t give a d@mn whose health they ruin or even who they kill.
“We’ve got a way bigger problem than ‘Disinformation’” is a an understatement of breathtaking proportions.
After reading this, I was reminded of one of my favorite lines written by Erich Heller, the author of The Disinherited Mind (a brilliant study,of modern thought and literature). As Heller writes:
“One...half-truth in which our common sense indulges (and much of our higher education is based on, including its ‘crisis’) is the doctrine that any kind of knowledge, as long as it supplies us with correctly ascertained facts, is worth teaching and learning, and the more such correct facts we accumulate, the nearer we come to Truth.
We have become so democratic in our habits of thought that we are convinced that Truth is determined through a plebiscite of facts.”
Yes it is worth reading! Thanks and I hope it sinks in for some on the left. I think social media has made us more tribal, it’s awful.
“Disinformation?” Bring it on! I want to hear all points of view. I’ll disregard the ones I think are crazy, but I want the opportunity to decide for myself what makes sense and what doesn’t, and I want you to have that same opportunity.
The cure for the prog based propaganda campaign of "disinformation?"
COUNTERINFORMATION
The prog hurls the claim of "disinformation," answer them with Counterinformation and challenge them to prove it wrong.
Science is the practice of questioning things, constantly—offering alternative hypotheses to accepted “wisdom,” and then testing those new hypotheses.
The Scientific Process is used to evaluate observable reactions under certain conditions for a finite time and see if such reactions are repeatable.
Science is a process not a religious faith.
The old saying;
“I may not agree with what you are saying but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
Has rung true all through our nation’s history and must not be put aside in these times especially.
Thanks for posting. As an author of long winded commentaries on Theology, I appreciate long articles that clearly give a complete assessment of the topic at hand.
In todays World, everyone wants a short soundbite of information, and all the leads to is people who cannot properly answer a question in a way that is satisfying.
Everyone one wants a quick response to a problem, well not everything can be solved in a sound bite,, and wars cannot be won in two hours like they are in a movie.
Thank you for posting this. It is a pleasure to read this erudite article by Bowden. Kudos to the author. Anyone with half a brain alters their opinion when new data is presented.
We do live in “interesting times.”
