President Joe Biden on Thursday announced the withdrawal of his controversial nominee, David Chipman, to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Several leading Republicans were outspoken opponents of Chipman for his past anti-gun comments and more aggressive gun control policies as well as connections to gun control groups. No new nominee has been announced.
“David Chipman is an erratic, anti-gun radical who planned to outlaw nearly every single sporting rifle in America," said Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark. "He is wholly unfit to run the ATF, and I’m glad to see President Biden has withdrawn his nomination.”
Biden took a parting shot at Republicans in his announcement, though some Democrats withheld support as well.
"Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress have made clear that they intend to use gun crime as a political talking point instead of taking serious steps to address it," Biden said. "That’s why they’ve moved in lockstep to block David Chipman’s confirmation, and it’s why they side with gun manufacturers over the overwhelming majority of the American people in opposing commonsense measures like universal background checks."
Senate Republicans did welcome the decision. There has only ever been one Senate-confirmed nominee to lead the federal agency.
“Glad to hear reports the White House is taking my advice and pulling the terrible nomination of David Chipman,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. “Absurd that a vocal opponent of Americans' constitutional rights was ever picked to run ATF. This is a win for the Second Amendment and law-abiding American citizens.”
Despite withdrawing the nomination, Biden stood firm in his backing of Chipman as a solid choice for the position.
“He would have been an exemplary Director of the ATF and would have redoubled its efforts to crack down on illegal firearms traffickers and help keep our communities safe from gun violence,” Biden said.
They’ll just confirm someone that is 99% the same and the GOP will claim victory.
Biden actually realized something... that he cannot appoint an ATF director that has less understanding of the Constitution and 2nd Amendment than Joe himself does.
Chipman did his best Strozk imitation. That’s what happened. It’s hard to find anyone in the FBI or ATF that doesn’t come across for what they really are? Punks in need of dismissal.

Withdrawing David Chipman from nomination to the ATF is the first intelligent thing he has done since January 20, 2021.
A shame that this took too long. Untold amounts of our hard-earned tax dollars were spent promoting this fool.
I saw one of his first testimonies before congress. Took me about 5 minutes to decide he was totally unfit for this job.

The Biden Plan is to confiscate as many guns as possible from law abiding gun owners and make sure that Afghan refugess get all the firearms they want.The lefts Afghani cannon fodder is now arriving by plane from Kabul in their thousands, carefully vetted and selected refugees who will be willing to be suicide bombers at Republican campaign rallies for big money pay offs to their families.
David Chipman or one like him will be instrumental in thhis plan of selective enfoprcement of the law against patriotic Americans who break no laws. Alinsky Rules!
They inntend to destroy the 2nd amendment the same way they have destroyed the Southerbn border through refuslay to enforce current law via executive orders.

President Biden says a lot of things that aren’t ringing true. Gun violence is just one more on a long list. If I had any guns, they would be complaining bitterly about being singled out as perps, when they can’t think, walk or talk their way out of their ridiculous position as the root cause of all the violence.
