Can we believe the shocking allegations of misconduct on the part of General Mark Milley in a new book to come from Bob Woodward? His paper, the Washington Post has published excerpts. Briefly:
Twice in the final months of the Trump administration, the country's top military officer was so fearful that the president's actions might spark a war with China that he moved urgently to avert armed conflict.
In a pair of secret phone calls, Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, assured his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People's Liberation Army, that the United States would not strike, according to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and national political reporter Robert Costa...
"General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay," Milley told him. "We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you."
In the book's account, Milley went so far as to pledge he would alert his counterpart in the event of a U.S. attack, stressing the rapport they'd established through a backchannel. "General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we're going to attack, I'm going to call you ahead of time. It's not going to be a surprise."
I already despise Milley for his focus on “white rage” and for his conduct of what became an abject surrender to the Taliban. But I have express some caution about believing Woodward, who does not name his sources. Peter Hasson of the Daily Caller News Foundation cautioned us two years ago about Woodward, citing:
…repeated, credible charges — including from well-respected fellow journalists — that in previous books Woodward embellished the truth, made dubious bombshell claims or was otherwise misleading.

In his radio program, Mark Levin pointed out on his syndicated radio show today that Woodward and the WaPo should not have sat on this story, if it is true, until Woodward had a book to hype. Milley allegedly was, after all, discussing a wartime situation in which the US was going to strike China, which would make his giving aid and comfort to the enemy treason, a capital offense. Since we were not at war at the time he allegedly made these overtures, they probably do not qualify as treason per se, but do indicate a plot to commit treason.
The sooner Milley is placed under oath before Congress and required to testify and produce documentary evidence of his communications, the better.
If I am to be consistent, no we can’t believe Woodward. He’s an evil, lying POS media whore. There’s an agenda. Deflect from Joe’s current problems? Cast Trump as unstable?
I would not be surprised if the story about Milley is true, but I do not trust Bob Woodward. More verification is needed. Either way, Milley should be fired or resign for gross dereliction of duty.
Bttt
Milley's a stinker, but I think he's also the Biden administration's designated fall guy.
Agreed
Hard to believe that Woodward might leave himself open to a slander lawsuit but, as a good little leftist, he may feel that he is above the law.
Breaking news is just that.
You don’t wait for a book to go to print.
You break the news or your complicit in the crime.
Woodward is a joke of a man either way.
“Can we believe Bob Woodward’s story...”
You could have ended it there and my answer would always be NO
Hahahahaha...it's so charming that someone actually still believes Congressional investigations are meant to accomplish anything other than scoring political points.
Whether or not Woodward's claims are true, Milley should still resign or be fired due to his terrible performance to date.
It sounds plausible but Woodward is a known lying turd so who knows?
Release the audio tapes I’m sure the deep state recorded it
Can we believe that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff conspired with the Speaker of the House to commit treason against the United States of America?
Given what’s happened this year.... Bayesian statistics indicates a high probability that we can!!
Well, lets look at his track record. He was Naval Intelligence in signals type stuff (CIA). Then he gets a Job at the Washington Post with no news reporting experience at all.
Then suddenly breaks Watergate and a president is overthrown. Then a few decades of deep state reporting.
Then look at our government and media. They lie for cruelty, for fun, for profit, for political reasons. They lie when they know we know it’s a lie. They lie and wink at us and enjoy us knowing. They lie more than a female of reproductive age. They lie when the truth would actually fit better.
They lie.
I can see zero reason to trust the story is accurate. It is probably very different than the truth. It could be as dissociated as Milley drinking whiskey with Woodward and saying “If Trump would have order me to do X, I woulda stopped it”.
Well it looks like there *WAS* a military coup after all. Against Trump.
No, he is a lying POS ,always was and still is. Even though it might be true of that Traitor Milly. Who knows?
Why not ask Milley to testify about this under oath?
As if that will ever happen. In case you missed it, TREASON has become the norm in this country and has been for several years.
Congress nor anybody else is going to do one damned thing about it.
The Constitution of the United States of America has been declared to be fully Null and Void.
The Communists are now fully in control.
If not true Woodard is a liar and this is actionable libel. If true, he has known this for months and is a criminal who endangered this country to sell a book. §2382. Misprision of treason
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States and having knowledge of the commission of any treason against them, conceals and does not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to the President or to some judge of the United States, or to the governor or to some judge or justice of a particular State, is guilty of misprision of treason and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than seven years, or both.
