Sarah Silverman called out Hollywood’s tendency to cast non-Jewish actors to play Jewish characters, referring to the practice as “Jewface.”
The comedian, 50, pointed to Kathryn Hahn as the most recent example after the Catholic-raised actress, 48, was tapped to portray the late Joan Rivers, who was Jewish, in an upcoming limited series.
“There’s this long tradition of non-Jews playing Jews, and not just playing people who happen to be Jewish but people whose Jewishness is their whole being,” Silverman said in Thursday’s episode of her eponymous podcast, adding, “One could argue, for instance, that a Gentile [a non-Jew] playing Joan Rivers correctly would be doing what is actually called ‘Jewface.'”

Isn’t that what all acting is? Playing something you’re not.
Sheesh can we find anything else to complain about? They are actors. They can play any role they would be good at playing.
This has gone on in Hollywood for a long time anyway. Charlton Heston played a Mexican in Touch of Evil. Jewish actors often played Italian mobsters. Al Jolson anyone?
In Shakespeare’s day, all the actors were men. Even the female characters were played by men.

Sarah Silverman needs to play Huma Abedin in some future flick, like “The Durham Papers.”
This is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of why it will never be possible to unify a country made up of people who identify first with their group.
I get it with blacks, to some extent - After all, you can’t really have whites playing slaves in Ruts, but this Jewish stuff is sickening. Maybe a compromise might work for her - have the non-Jewish actors in Jewish roles wear nose-extenders, perhaps?

Actors are so damn stupid, they have no idea what acting is.
Let’s end this requirement that actors be the types they portray.
Just require that only intelligent actors can be used for parts that have lines spoken by intelligent people.
That’ll eliminate roughly 99% of the current clown show.
