Former President Bill Clinton was hospitalized in Southern California on Tuesday evening, a spokesperson said Thursday.
Angel Urena, the spokesperson, said the illness is a non-Covid related infection.
"On Tuesday evening, President Clinton was admitted to UCI Medical Center to receive treatment," he said in a statement. "He is on the mend, in good spirits, and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care."
Clinton's doctors also released a statement.
"He was admitted to the hospital for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids. He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring. After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well," Drs. Alpesh Amin and Lisa Bardack said in the statement. "The California-based medical team has been in constant communication with the President's New York-based medical team, including his cardiologist. We hope to have him go home soon."
A source close to Clinton said Thursday that he is in intensive care "as a precautionary measure." The hospital needed to isolate him and not because his care required it, the source said. The original infection was diagnosed as urologic, but then it morphed into a broader one, the source said. In 2004, Clinton underwent a quadruple bypass operation at New York-Presbyterian Hospital to reroute his blood supply to circumvent four severely clogged arteries, The New York Times reported at the time. Clinton had complained of chest pains and shortness of breath. A team of surgeons then found extensive signs of heart disease, with blockages in some of Clinton's arteries at well over 90 percent, the newspaper reported.
Clinton returned to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 2010 to undergo another heart procedure, this time to insert two stents into a coronary artery.
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton were scheduled to attend a private Clinton Foundation event in California Thursday evening.
Hillary Clinton went to the event to represent them both, according to a person close to Clintons, and then she went to be with her husband in Irvine, which is in Orange County.

Clinton repeatedly gave critical tech to the ChiComs in order to fund his political career. He was a Rhodes Scholar/Fulbright family operative married to a more open communist, who said and did whatever he needed to get on the football field and advance the ball.
After Reagan’s third term (Bush I), the country wouldn’t have gone for real leftist horse poop, so he followed the Fabian model and presided over the advancement that the country would then accept. Just look to his massive corruption via his “foundation” and I think you will find he was the coordinator of funding from loads of billionaires who have underwritten and advanced the current evil agenda.
Was he a horny dog often focused on satisfying his tiny, bent member? Sure. But that doesn’t make him a real centrist at all.
A lot of things could be happening soon. Worst case? Bill passes, lavish funeral and tributes, then something happens to Biden. He departs from the scene.
Harris is the first woman president and garners enormous goodwill from the world. Harris nominates Hellery as VP who is basking in the sympathy of millions of Americans. Months later the economy is crashing, the market HAS crashed, massive surge in unemployment, inflation roaring, China invades Taiwan etc, and Harris steps down (”for the good of the country”) as the job is just too much for her.
Then...Hillary Clinton is our president!
