This outrageous and completely pointless attempt to ban natural gas, regulate private kitchens, and change the way Americans choose freely to live can't be attacked on the merits - EVEN THOUGH the author points out that for his wife and himself, a gas range in the kitchen is "non-negotiable".
Is that why he writes to oppose it? OH, NO!
It's because it's bad for MINORITIES, specifically Indians (dot, not feather) who need to puff roti, and Chinese who use woks. If only white Americans used woks, I suppose NR would be advising us that you can't fight progress, even though it's regrettable.
American "conservatives" have failed, over and over, to defend the nation ON THE BASIS that it's a nation. Now, it's almost too late, and if it gets done at all, it will have to be done without NR and the whole rotten conservative structure.
National Review was trash before they took off the camouflage with their “Against Trump” cover.
Of the people on that cover the only one to say he was wrong is Glenn Beck.
Great comment. Nailed it. As far as gas stoves go they’re the best for serious cooking. Electric and induction “burners” just don’t respond quickly enough. I choose a gas setup and will never go with an electric cooktop. Let some idiot try to prevent me from enjoying my reasonable, personal choice and see what happens. . .
Amen. The conservative movement has grown tired and old, living on clicks generated from online articles. It's only accomplishment, post Reagan, is the shedding of the Trotskyites from the Weekly Standard crowd. The politics of populism might still save the nation, altho time is fading. Leave the conservatives to argue over spending less than the Democrats. Selling that to men and women who are being fired tomorrow for not rolling up their sleeve for a vaxx is a fools errand. The days of Buckley & Goldwater are over and it's time to leave their memories behind.
Look and see who is heavily invested in (GE cough, cough) electric stove manufacturers.
Good luck replacing the hundreds of thousand of units in NYC apartments/high rise building units.
Even better luck preparing your meals, during the brown/black outs.
The one cooking/heating method, that works cleanly and effeciently, of course they want to ban.
Great post!
Another reason not to live in CA.
I can’t imagine electric water heaters are more efficient than natural gas water heaters.
I don’t even understand - why is gas “bad for the environment”?
Oh, I know, probably the “digging” for it is a “bad” process.
When are these electric freaks going to figure out that steam runs electricity (networks), which is best powered by - any number of “evil” things. And their batteries are created via nasty materials and processes.
My father used a wok on an electric stove. However this is just a statement of fact, not a support for limiting people’s choice of how they want to cook their food.
I guess more clean natural gas for the rest of us.
When my parents started getting forgetful, I capped my gas and got an electric stove. Its not as good, but have greater peace of mind. I’m a lousy cook anyway.
I suppose we could always use clay ovens and charcoal.
underscores how the culture of democracy often is the culture of fads...
It’s what our founders warned us AGAINST!
It’s why we are supposed to be a republic...
“There are an estimated 60 million people of Hispanic origin living in the United States. There are roughly 20 million people of Asian origin in the country, nearly 5 million of whom are Indian and more than 5 million of whom are Chinese.
Telling them that the way they cook their food is bad for the environment certainly is a peculiar position for Democrats to be in.”
With a FUNCTIONAL Republican Party, we’d be all over this crap. But, of course, they’re not. So the Democrats can continue to get away with it, because they know the GOP will NOT call them out*.
*that’s due to the GOP not being able to find anyone who can speak Asian or Indian.
The wok on an electric stove does not work!
I tried it. The temperature necessary and the consistent application of heat cannot be attained, nor sustained on an electric stove.
Electric Heat is not as warm as gas heat. Gas just keeps the room warmer for some reason.
Until it’s outlawed, immigrants will be cooking with Propane, and we’ll have have the explosions to show it.
The amount of gas used for cooking in the home is negligible and is of no consequence to climate change. This is about control. All smart meters have built in cutoffs. Once we are all electric, you will be at their mercy to make even a cup of coffee. This is evil, pure and simple.
California doesn’t have enough electric. Quick! Ban natural gas!
Effing morons!
