In-N-Out Burger’s refusal to act as COVID ‘vaccination police’ may be start of bigger battle

The In-N-Out hamburger chain is sizzling mad after San Francisco shut down its indoor dining for refusing to check customers’ vaccination status.

The company’s Fisherman’s Wharf location — its only one in San Francisco — was temporarily shut by the Department of Public Health on Oct. 14.

“We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government,” Arnie Wensinger, the chain’s chief legal and business officer, said in a statement.

Wensinger called San Francisco’s mandate unreasonable, invasive and unsafe for employees to “segregate customers” into groups who can and can’t be served.

“We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business,” he said. “This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper and offensive.”

Make sure that you patronize these businesses. The hypochondriacs will complain that “these businesses are killing people” and post it on their neighborhood app.

I am not sure there are many businesses who would have done the same. Not even Chick-fil-A, which is sad to think.

I had to drive 12 miles to a Chick Fillet when that franchise
was on the line.

You can patronize them. Just not the one in San Fran.
They are a hugely popular and successful private business. They have ‘screw you’ money. They don’t answer to shareholders or the feds. They buy local. The worst that can happen is some local health inspector will write them up. And they can shut the location if they want to.

Personally, I find their hamburgers too salty. But it is a phenomenon. You’ll always expect 20 minutes wait to get your food the places are packed.

My Grandkids love In-N-Out. They also have the nicest employees in fast food.

They should have asked for vaccine proof from any NotSee agent who stepped foot into the restaurant to attempt to close them down. Force them to prove their status first.

We have one near us. The biggest difference when compared to the other chains is that they are cheap.

Also, we are on a low carb diet and, I am told, the fries and the bun push their burgers over the finish line.

I have ordered their meat only stack and it is decently priced and it tastes okay. But with the bun and fries, it is probably better.

I had IAO for the first time in a visit to Arizona. Thought they were “meh”. Figured it was a regional thing, like no one gets our love for Dick’s Hamburgers in Washington state.

But now I see they have some balls to go with the burgers. Go IAO!

Lettuce would be nice. That is what we do at other places and the lettuce really adds to the flavor. Something about the crunch watery lettuce.

I was ordering the Flying Duchman and then asking them to add patties. Protein Style... I remember that, thanks!

It’s a very efficient operation, made better by the sheer volumes of people they serve. They can keep the prices low.

I hear you on the carbs. I avoid fast food for the most part. El Pollo Loco is about as fast as I go. Grilled chicken, delicious and healthy.

Fudruckers was a good place. But there are few of those any more. Their condiments bar was the best. And I'd always order the half pound without the bun. Just pile up the condiments.

The intention was to shut down dissenters. Anyone who wouldn’t bow down in complete submission was fired or their business was illegally closed.

The government does not have the right to shut down a business. They have the power. But not the right.
