Simone Biles is still struggling after dealing with the "twisties" at the Tokyo Olympics. Biles discussed her mental health on the "Today" show Thursday.
Biles revealed she is "still scared to do gymnastics" following the Olympics, fighting back tears as she discussed the issue.
"I don't twist [on tour,]" Biles said. "I do double lay half outs, which is my signature move on the floor. That's never affected me. But everything else weighs so heavy and I watch the girls do it and it's not the same.
"To do something that I've done forever and just not be able to do it because of everything I've gone through is really crazy nd I don't think people understand the magnitude of what I go through.
"For so many years to go through everything that I've gone through, put on a front, I'm proud of myself and I'm happy that I can be a leader for the survivors and bring courage to everybody speaking up, so I'm happy to be a voice for them. But we go through our own things and it's hard. I'm still scared to do gymnastics."
Biles then discussed some ways she has handled mental struggles, which include taking walks and being less active on social media.
Biles has not retired from gymnastics, and believes she will eventually move past the "twisties." Once that happens, she can decide whether she wants to keep competing in high-level events.

World’s tiniest violin is playing
she wont go away
The end of a career. Something every athlete has to come to terms with. She’s not special.
Time to retire after a great career. No shame in that.
But she wants people to pay money to watch her because she is The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT)? And we’re all to applaud her for being a survivor, although many others went thru as much or more?
Who cares?
Well put.
She should learn to code.
If twisties are the little re-usable ties that seals my bread in the packaging, then yes, I have trouble with them also.
As Yogi said 90% of hitting is half mental. Mindset always trumps muscle and sinew in athletic competition over the long run.
I was a waitress for years and years. I didn’t make much money but free food and cash every day, right?
One day, however, I was waiting on a table full of office ladies who were sitting out on the, what do you call it, the restaurant’s outdoor porch. You know. There were like nine of these office gals. I was bringing their tray of fancy-a$$ drinks in large glasses and dropped the whole try on one lady right as I was setting it down. Whoa, was that awful. My boss said, “No big deal,” and gave me another tray. Which I also dropped.
And I never waited tables again. :(
*shakes hair*
*a bunch of twisties fall out*
Yeah, I know what you mean.
Is she vaccinated? Could be a touch of vertigo as a result.
Poor lamb
I don’t read it that way. I read it as publicity seeking.
