Yeah, enough to make a hundred batteries! ;-D
Good luck getting a mining permit.
It takes a lot of work to get actual lithium out of a ton of lithium ore.
And the amount you end up with is a tiny fraction of a ton.
You know what ore is don’t you?
So you are saying lithium ore is worth 135 dollars a ton?
lol
the green newry deal...
we're totally effed.
Hillary already sold it to Putin.
“The EPA and every enviro wacko group will be there to make sure not one bit of dirt is disturbed until the end of time because of any old thing they want.”
Well, there’s the endangered Lithium Fox. It can only live near huge lithium deposits.
Regulations, high tax rates on the companies trying to mine, long waits for permits, etc. Democrats donât want lithium mining in this country, despite all their talk about being competitive. Theyâll sell out to China in a heartbeat.
Probably will pull a Clinton and make it a national monument. Worked to stop coal mining in Utah.
Lithium ore may be worth more or less than $135/ton, depending on the grade of the ore and on the price of lithium at a particular time. Lithium ore in hard-rock mines does not consist of pure lithium, nor pure lithium oxide, nor even pure lithium carbonate. Most of the lithium is contained in a mineral called spodumene, though there are usually other lithium-bearing minerals present too.
From the article (you did read the article, right?): “The deposit showed an average lithium oxide content of 4.68% by weight. Thatâs three times the average concentration of the worldâs top 10 hard rock lithium mines.” I’m too lazy to look up the current price of lithium oxide and do the calculation, but $135/ton doesn’t sound completely unreasonable.
That doesn’t mean that the entire $1.5 billion will go right into the owners’ pockets, though. Developing a mine and extracting and processing the ore will cost a hell of a lot of money. Considering the legal and environmental obstacles, I’d be very surprised if that deposit is mined any time soon.
they found this several years ago, and it was published. not a new discovery.
Thanks.
$135 per ton for 1% does sound accurate.
There are millions of pounds of Copper in the UP and Northern Wisconsin that the EPA will not allowed to be mined.
Of course we have a severe Copper shortage in the US, but Old Joe has no idea.
“In an effort to avoid what happened in Brooksville and elsewhere, the law also requires companies to set aside money for cleaning up or treating any environmental contamination for at least 100 years after the mineâs closure.”
And with only 10 years left for the climate kills us all...
I’m not surprised. I hadn’t heard of it, but I don’t follow the lithium scene at all. I wonder how much confidence to put in their tonnage/grade numbers, too. Has the deposit been thoroughly drilled and sampled to prove the reserves, or is it just a case of, “We think there’s 11 million tons in the deposit, and we ran some samples that came back at 4.68%, so that means we have 11 Mt of 4.68% ore.”
I suppose I could search the literature, but I honestly don’t care that much.
11 million tons? That is dust in a large gold mine.
Lithium Carbonate is roughly $28,000 per metric ton, if my research and math is correct.
Heaven forbid we use any of our own resources.
