Thune endorses Herschel Walker in Georgia Senate race

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) on Monday endorsed Herschel Walker’s bid to oust Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in the latest sign that GOP leaders are warming up to the former football star’s Georgia Senate campaign.

“I am proud to endorse Herschel Walker for U.S. Senate in Georgia,” said Thune, the No. 2 Senate Republican leader. “Herschel Walker is a fighter, a uniter, and a proven winner with the ability to bring Republicans together to win in November.”

Thune is the fifth Republican senator to throw his support behind Walker and the first member of Senate GOP leadership to do so. Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Steve Daines (Mont.), Roger Marshall (Kans.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) have already endorsed Walker in the race to unseat Warnock.

Quite the leader isn't he?

They know this race is a lost cause in getting in one of their preferred cronies.

So they'll now focus on others, like getting Katie Boyd Britt nominated in Alabama or getting Lisa Murkowski successfully through her primary.

I’m a little surprised by this. I’ve seen no indication that Hershel Walker is in anyway qualified to be a US Senator. But these days, I guess we just don’t care about that any more. Name recognition is all that matters.

Thanks for nothing Thune. He needs the seat to be majority leader. He wouldn’t be supporting him if he thought he couldn’t win. Something tells me a senator Walker will be used as a GOP ornament while his enemies will play the intellectual lightweight game with him.

Actually Walker is very conservative, pro family (no more,”I think he my baby-daddy” garbage), and pro Trump agenda. Something we definitely need more of in Congress.

If Walker wasn’t such a strong MAGA candidate I’d be concerned. Hopefully Walker keeps his distance from swamp heavyweights like Thune and Graham. They wormed their way into Trump’s confidence and destroyed him.

Yes, bring Hershel into the club and work on his manners. A little "establishment finishing school" if you will.

“I’ve seen no indication that Hershel Walker is in anyway qualified to be a US Senator.”

I disagree with you here. There are three constitutional qualifications for US Senator. And Walker meets all of those.

While it’s natural for a state legislator, for example, to move up to the national legislature, and we’ve seen plenty of governors become US Senators, or other state-wide officials because of their stature, there is nothing precluding ordinary citizens or non-previous politicians from becoming US senators.

Mike Braun was a businessman. Rand Paul is a doctor. And God knows we’ve had president’s wives and senator’s wives become senators, and they certainly weren’t “qualified” other than their connections.

Walker is not a pathological liar, which qualifies him ahead of about 90 current senators.

Yeah, Walker didn’t come up through the political “system”..or get funded by the “right” folks.

Now that the RINOs realize Herschel is going to romp to victory, they’re trying to get on his good side after previously vowing to defeat him.

Which Republicans vowed to defeat Walker?

I guess Walker might turn out to be a good candidate, but it sadly looks like another unproven celebrity candidate. There are better men running like Latham Saddler.

Thune’s boss the Turtle was against Walker until it was clear Walker was easily going to crush any RINO candidate the establishment tried to put up for that Senate seat.

When did he “vow to defeat” him? I’ve heard the “we have concerns” buzz, but no need to exaggerate. There was no vow to defeat.

Turtle lost both seats last time, he doesn't want to lose again apparently.
