When Republican Winsome Sears took the stage early Wednesday morning to celebrate her victory over Democrat Hala Ayala in the race to be Virginia’s next lieutenant governor, the crowd was electrified. Sears, surrounded by her family, sparkled as the crowd chanted, “Winsome! Winsome! Winsome!”
“I am at a loss for words for the first time in my life,” she told supporters. “I am here because of you. I’m here because you voted for me. I’m here because you put your trust in me. Thank you, thank you.”
“I’m telling you that what you are looking at is the American dream. The American dream. When my father came to this country on August 11, 1963. He came at the height of the civil rights movement,” she said. “He came from Jamaica. I said to him, ‘why did you come?’ He said, ‘because America was where the jobs and the opportunities were.'”
She explained that her father arrived in the U.S. with $1.75 in his pocket, taking any job he could find and putting himself through school so he could enjoy the American Dream.

She has not stayed on the DemocRAT plantation.
I hope she remembered to renounce her Klan membership.

I was impressed by her speech.
As governors in Virginia are term limited, she may well be the GOP candidate for governor four years from now.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but I would say she’s got a bright political future.
She’s a leftist nightmare, a black woman who is not liberal, who is not on the Democrat plantation. An individual who by her mere presence, smashes liberal theology that the Republican party is racist, sexist, etc. An individual who proves she can survive and thrive in politics outside the allegedly tolerant Democrat party.

She is impressive. Lady has a bright future in politics.
Our side has Content of Character. Their side fills “POC” and identity feel good quotas.

What a great article and a super video by Ms. Sears. That brought tears to my eyes. My grandfather emigrated to the USA with his family (wife and three kids) in October 1927 from Germany to get a fresh start. He, my Oma, and the three kids all became naturalized US citizens. So, personally, it is wonderful hearing Ms. Sears story because it so parallels our own family story (and I’m sure that of many of FReepers, as well).
You know what’s special about Winsome’s father, your grandparents, my grandparents? They came to this Country with pennies in their pockets and made something of themselves without receiving a hand-out. They worked, they studied and made sure they were not a burden to society. They have much to be proud of.
I hate that term glass ceiling. Nobody has been stopping women from running for office for a very very long time. If she has a good message, and relevant experience, people will vote for her as they just did and will again
Sorry, I don’t believe she is anything but a Lincoln Project Republican. It’s so hard to know what is real and what is fake, that I immediately distrust ANY politician upon election.
You watch: she WILL stab conservative Virginians in the back. Why should she do anything for Whypepo? The media will APPLAUD her if she stabs us in the back.
I’m impressed and proud of this woman...
