An ID card belonging a Massachusetts teen last seen nearly four decades ago has been recovered from a river, along with unidentified human remains, authorities said.
Judith Chartier, of Chelmsford, 17, was last seen on June 5, 1982, after leaving a party in Billerica.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said “significant portions” of the teen’s 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger were located by divers Tuesday in the Concord River in Billerica, marking a crucial development in the decades-old cold case.
Investigators recovered human remains and a work ID of Chartier’s in the same river Wednesday near Tuesday’s find — about 50 to 75 yards from shore in about 8 to 10 feet of water, the Boston Globe reported.

Offhand, without additional information, it sounds like she may have taken a wrong turn into river.
“DNA came around when? 90’s?”
DNA has been around for millions of years.
Quite possible. She had left a party. Perhaps she was intoxicated an made a wrong turn and was too drunk to get out of the car..
Where was Ted Kennedy?
Lol
I meant the testing
A person...possibly drunk, possibly not...driving home late at night winds up in a river or lake...very sad.
Drinking alcohol will get you. The girl who was stabbed to death in South Carolina was too intoxicated to defend her self from her attacker. The instrument he used to kill her with was too short to pierce a vital organ and cause her death. He had to stab her in the face and neck and cut both the Jugular vein and the carotid artery. She lost most of the blood in her body. In the back of his car. Poor girl.
Another kennedy killing?
I live in an area that was heavily strip mined and there are strip mine settlement ponds everywhere.
In the last decade may of these were either restripped to get out the deeper coal or they reclaimed the land which was never done.
Constantly reading stories of stolen cars, trucks and motorcyles found in these ponds when they drain them.
We have a 1 acre 30 feet deep settlement pond on our farm. Our farm was slated to be strip mined but it never was.
Always curious what may be at the bottom of the pond.
Is the concord River deep enough to keep an entire 1972 Dodge Dart hidden for 50 years?
Yeah....and, start at party, check likely route home. Why does it take nearly 40 years to find a car in a river?
Adventures with purpose (AWP). They’ve found more missing people lately and used to face an attitude from law enforcement. It’s all funded by their viewers and is an amazing gift for the families who desperately seek answers. Some Angels really do walk the earth.
A good crime drama involving foresnics before DNA testing came out is Mystery Street with Ricardo Montalban.

The trailer:
“Why does it take nearly 40 years to find a car in a river?”
Last year in Florida they found a missing women and her car in a canal less than 12 feet from the road in 5 or 6 feet of water that had been there for 30 years. Canal was 50 feet away from condominiums.
A kid with a drone was flying overhead and saw the outline of the car.
17, female, “leaving party”, seems to be a leading cause of death...
They must have gotten a lead to follow; someone trying to plea bargain?
