Colin Powell, the retired four-star general who served as the nation’s first black secretary of state and devoted decades of his life to public service, is being laid to rest Friday during a private funeral at the Washington National Cathedral.
The service began at noon local time and is hosting President Biden and first lady Jill Biden in addition to two former presidents, Barack Obama and George W. Bush, and their wives, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush. Former President Donald Trump is not expected to attend.

DO NOT CARE. THANKS.
What an appropriate venue, a den of Satan.
I think basically the pres reps were for those who actually worked with him. I don’t think they can bash Trump too successfully for not going to a funeral of someone he didn’t really work with..
The National Cathedral went dead to me when they allowed Moslems in for their “services” (which I’m sure was all men, butts in the air, and no women allowed), to show how ecumenical and big they are despite 9/11.
$100 bucks says he’ll still vote Democrat... even though he always claimed he’s Republican.
Every time I hear Powell’s name the 1st image that comes to mind is him dancing on stage at obama’s inauguration...I see it every time....Condoleezza Rice too for that matter.
Should be buried in an unmarked grave or Soylent Green.
Endless praise and the sanctification of Colin Powell is all the politically correct rage these days. Yet what were his lasting accomplishments of significance other than being appointed to the offices he held?
I agree with you re the Episcopal church. But, this service was beautiful, and well worth watching.
Laid to rest at the National Cathedral sounds like he is being entombed there.
...........a “private funeral” is what a family does when it fears the possible embarrassment of only 10 people showing up.
My mother quite literally taught me that if you can’t say something good about a dead person then “shut up”........so I will.
Sorry, but my sock drawer is not gonna organize itself. I’ll have to pass.
.......”This service was beautiful, and well worth watching”......
I definatly Agree. ....esepcially once you get past Armetige and Madelyn.
Loved the idea they removed the flag once entering the church and draped it with a white cross trimmed covering. Nice touch. Also noteworthy was how they uplifted Jesus throughout the service. This service was very tastefully done and easy to see the family’s input. Powells son was excellent in how he spoke about Powell.
One of the very few Services I got anything meaningful out of. This one had it....very well done.
I will not mourn a whining race-hustler, Perfumed Princess of the Pentagon, and war profiteer. My eyes are dry. He can irritate the devil now.
Many notable Americans have been interred in the cathedral
such as Helen Keller and Pres. Woodrow Wilson.
Well, bye.
