It thought it was standard practice to have wing walkers on every move. It’s the way we moved aircraft when I was working commercial aviation.

***when the driver of a tow misjudged the distance between the plane’s right wing and a metal perimeter fence. ***

When I worked on B-52s and KC-135s (1966-1969) when always had “WING WALKERS” walking along each side of the aircraft wings just to prevent this sort of thing.

But, on a taxiway on an airbase that has been in use since the 50’s for bombers this size? How do you get the wing so far over it hits a fence?

The part of the article that mentions "... placed on display" suggests that this is not a part of Barksdale where the bombers usually travel. An older taxiway or one usually used by smaller aircraft, perhaps.

I wonder if this is a temporary display or something more permanent - with Barksdale retaining a B-52 that would otherwise be headed for the boneyard?
