FWIW, people were also worried about overpopulation more than a century ago. Population of earth is almost an order of magnitude larger now than it was when those generations were worrying.
I remember in the late 60’s the overpopulation scare was hot and intense. One thing was different- my high-school teachers presented various views about it and were never alarmist. Even so- as teens we were worried. I can not imagine the fear kids live in now.
