Massive looting in San Francisco’s central Union Square on Friday evening led local police to limit car access to the plaza, which is the centerpiece of the downtown area and one of the most popular tourist destinations on the cable car route.

More truthfulness: It was nearly as bad during the 1970s and even worse in some ways in the 1980s/90s. I will not present evidence because I don’t want to disturb optimistic people to that extent.
