Those that would like to know what truely happened back then may want to read the full account from Bradford.
“Sharing things and “public” property sound nice, but only private ownership reliably inspires people to conserve and protect.”
This, not race or religion or social views, is the greatest divide between the conservative and liberal movements today. The left is comprised of people who will work for nothing, while the right is comprised of those who work and are forced to share with them - A LOT. The worst areas in this country aren’t horrible because of the races of the inhabitants; they are horrible because nobody has a vested interest in making them nice.
“more free highways”
Like hell.
The moment you have mixing of different people, one or more groups will attempt to take advantage of that situation for their own gain - in other words, using government to take from those who produce. If you reward non-workers, then they will take the freebies.
On the other hand, with one group, you can have a set of cultural values that applies to everyone. That’s why the social democracies in Scandinavia worked (until they started loading up with immigrants) and why Japan still works. If you were lazy in these single-group countries, you were shunned by the people around you. In multi-ethnic countries, it’s the opposite - if you work, you are a sell-out, if you don’t work, you’re ‘beating the system’.
And it will NEVER change - you CANNOT reward non-workers in a multi-ethnic country, you have to make them suffer for their laziness.
