"The original classic anime series “Cowboy Bebop,” premiered in 1998 and came to fame in America via “Adult Swim” in 2001, every Saturday night at midnight. It quickly gained a reputation as one of the greatest works in animation that has ever graced the television screen. Now, Netflix audaciously thinks it can do better, releasing a live-action adaptation last month. Sadly, Netflix’s cowboy is an obese and crude bore, unable or unwilling to comprehend why the original worked. ..."

The original Cowboy Bebop was a masterpiece and remains the only anime DVDs I own. Other than the two male leads in this woke live action version, the rest sounds horrible.

Netflix already canceled it.

Netflix is an insult period. Practically nothing of value anymore.

Modern woke producers screw up a classic? Shocking. I loved “Cowboy Bebop”, and I still have all the episodes ripped from my old DVDs. I may even spend a half hour today watching one today if one of the Sunday games gets boring. I will not be watching the crap live-action remake on Netflix.

I saw the anime series in its entirety for the first time from a DVD set that was gifted to me. Smashing entertainment!*

I was very surprised to learn that, until this Netflix series, there was only one follow-on movie. No new seasons nor revisitation.

I know Space Battleship Yamato, Robotech/Macross, and Gatchaman had all sorts of follow-on series and movies. So learning that Cowboy Bebop was pretty much one-and-done astounds me.

So I’m very interested in seeing what Netflix did with it, taking the current criticism under advisement. At least through a few episodes.

* My two criticisms of the anime series:
1) I’m not a fan of what I call “anime ennui.” The sudden halt in a galloping story while a main character (or several) reminisce in sadness/bitterness about their past.
2) Bebop crew: I’m amazed that for an anime that paid attention to details, they didn’t give everyone fresh changes of clothes. Jet, at least, plausibly had a locker full of utilitarian overalls. But even he could have used a suitable change for going about off-ship.

It was, watched it every night on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network in the day. When I was in Afghanistan, the base I was on in Kabul had a crap ton on Anime on the local network drive, downloaded all HD episodes of Cowboy Bebop.

I saw the first episode and it sucked. Was hoping for something like Firefly, and got something that a prepubescent Quentin Tarantino might have done.

Amazon made a mess out of the Wheel of Time series - watched 20 minutes and turned it off. Didn't follow the plot from the books at all. Even with the shortcuts and condensing of characters and scenes that went on Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit still managed to follow the story and present the characters well. The mangling of Wheel of Time didn't even do that.

I agree it’s a stupid sounding name, but the stories (anime) are good. And the music F’n rocks.
