“That’s It! I’m Leaving!”
Taki's ^ | December 13, 2021 | The Z Man

The slow and often comical decline of Official Conservatism™ starting somewhere in the Bush years has offered many insights into what has gone wrong since the middle of the last century. It is as if the tide is slowing going out, revealing many things that had previously been hidden under the waterline. Or, as Warren Buffett would say it, the tide has gone out and we now see who was swimming naked.

An example of this phenomenon is a piece by New York Times columnist David Brooks in The Atlantic in which he bemoans the state of conservatism. This is becoming a staple of The Atlantic. Two weeks ago, they gave the sanctimonious poseur David French the chance to whine about the “new right’s strange and dangerous cult of toughness.”

In the case of Brooks, he is doing the dramatic-exit act. This is when someone who is about to be escorted out of the party declares she is leaving and makes a big scene on the way out the door. In the case of Brooks, he is stomping off long after everyone at the party forgot he was still there. The only people who think Brooks is right-wing are his imaginary friends he uses in his columns. His sandwich-poor high school dropout friend will be crushed by news of his departure.

Conservatism is supposed to conserve something, right?

Take your soppressata sandwich on baguette and shove it up your perfectly creased pants, Brooks.

The best thing for real conservatism is to stop watching those RINO establishment wonks and politicians on Sunday Morning Talk shows and to start listening to your neighbors and friends and start finding a news source that isn’t AP, Reuters, UPI, AFP, CBS, NBC, ABC or MSDNC et al.

Oh, and I can’t stress this enough - your local drive time AM/FM news? They’re all leftists who get their news trash from AP and your local leftist news rags.

That's a great post.

As soon as I saw reading the excerpt of this article I immediately asked myself what useful skills or ideas David Brooks could ever bring to any situation. The dope is a media hack because he can barely tie his own shoes.

Man...my idea of conservatism is a world different than what I read here. I'm an economist and my hero from day one has been Milton Freedman. My kind of conservatism is embodied in his book Free to Choose. If you have not read it, you should. It's not written for economists; it's written for everyone who wants to understand what they see going on around them.

Bush League Republicans were never conservatives.

They just played them on TV.

I watched them all in the 80s and 90s.....all so-called conservatives but what they really were (are) is a bunch of establishment professional losers, VERY comfortable in their second-tier power and influence seeming to be opposition but really are the loyal-but-not-too-vocal opposition. Content with the scraps that leftism in power throws them. Content in the DC and NYC parties they go to and are slapped on the back by their Democrat masters.

If Trump did anything, he exposed them one and all. For instance, look at what a real weasel Bill Kristol revealed himself to be. Even Chris Wallace back before he was on TV Sunday news shows before Fox - now where is he? I won’t say anything about a couple of the others because they are either dead now or just senile and retired, but they were there, too. Front and center apologism mixed with pseudo-conservative trappings.

David Brooks is the media analog to Liz Cheney.

From the article:

“Conservatism is dying and what is rising up in its place is first and foremost a rejection of the core ideas of radicalism. Equality, freedom, and democracy are no longer axioms of the right. Instead, what lies at the heart of the new right is an acceptance of the human condition and the implications that flow from it.”

Does anyone have an idea of what the author is saying in this ¶, particularly in the last two paragraphs?, cause I got nothin’.

Orthodox Conservatism is something I’ve been ranting about on this site for decades.

Endless enemies and wars
Free Trade
Open Borders
Export of Capital Stock

Political Charlatans and Liars...all of them.

Conservatism without Nationalism is like Faith without Works

The initial definition of "the Right" were those who supported monarchy. Every other position was to the left. Conservatism is a variation of liberalism just as libertarianism is, i e. classical liberalism.

Why should we expect a liberal philosophy like conservatism to conserve anything?

I totally agree on this.

Trump may not have been able to drain the swamp completely but he drained it enough for us to see the "Republicans" wearing Democrat clothing.

That’s not conservatism. That is classical liberalism. Free To Choose may not have intended for silliness such as men pretending to be women but it aided and abetted the process.
